Don't know about the artillery piece, but the Allis-Chalmers high speed tractor looks really good. Would make an interesting civilian conversion since some were converted over for forestry and road construction use. I think the basic chassis was built as a rock drill carrier up into the 1990s.

The M4 HST (High Speed Tractor) was designed by the Ordnance Dept using the existing obsolete M2 light tank suspension and tracks. Allis-Chambers were tasked with production of the tractors from 1942.
As you say surplus tractors were converted to many different civilian roles. The 155mm Long Tom was a rework of the WW1 Canon de 155 GPF (Grand Puissance Filloux) Mle 1917 arguably the best heavy gun of WW1. Regards, Charlie |
