I will probably purchase the ECW book soon.
I like the option you have to cut out the green space between the legs and soldiers in the front rank. Leaving that green space looks OK, too.
Here are two rows of ACW Union soldiers work in progress and the final result.

The flats cut out:

Folds to get the back rank:

Side view of the folds:

Front rank added without cutting out the white part:

Hidden back rank:

What it looks like with the white cut away and the green still between the legs and soldiers:

Two head on views with the green cut away:

It does not take much to cut out the over all outline by removing the white, nor does it take much to cut the green away.

Added bonus - some ship flats from the Trafalgar book:
HMS Victory:

Ships in line:

Thanks for the Photos! I was wondering what the Soldiers looked like with the misc. material removed between them & their Legs; sort of a 3-D look.

I agree... it would make a great Static scene, with 3-D Walls & Buildings, & maybe some Trees scattered here & there.

EDIT - Just looked @ Amazon; wow, they've got Roman, Scottish & Revolutionary War books, too! Looks like the Possibilities could be endless. I could think of a couple to Add...
-- US Cavalry, like the Little Bighorn
-- Japanese Samurai
-- Space Battles with Ships & Ground Troops

Many rumbles could be had, both Historical & Fantastical!

Thanks SCEtoAUX, for getting me back into these wonderful figures. I've just reduced a page in scale to about half size as an experiment. The figures are actually easier and quicker to prepare, which is good. I have limited space for wargaming so these will be just right.

Yep, those are some very interesting books. The illustrations are great and the making of the stands and models seems to be quite easy. Just load up some Tull, put on the headphones, and start cutting and gluing.

He's also made a few 3D paper models of artillery that is available on the Helion website for free, as well as a few other sets of soldiers. My copy of the ACW book should arrive at the house today. I'm going to have to strongly consider Gotham's approach of rescaling them, I'd love to have a gazillion of them on a table with my kids.

I've just ordered the ACW book now !!
One slight problem with ECW be the figures metal or paper - pikes. Bendy, bendy, bendy !!!
ACW, no pikes.

ECW = pikes, ACW = bayonets.
Bayonets not as fussy as pikes, but they still need some reenforcement.

Here is a video of Peter Dennis showing how he makes stuff from one of the books.

Pike making starts around 10:34.

Love the equipment Peter Dennis uses - large scissors, a Stanley knife and huge bottles of glue. Mind you, mad scissor skills.
I've glued the pike parts onto both sides of cereal box card. Now, no bendy pikes 😁.
Forgot ACW = bayonets 😭

18mm ACW and 10MM ACW

On the Website there are 18mm paper soldiers of the American Civil War.
They are really beautiful and if you want to try them out there is a free sheet downloadable with a unit of Red Zouaves!

18mm American Civil War
– Peter's Paperboys

I think they are designing also 10mm ACW paper-soldiers. Cutting at the beginning is challenging, but after some stands it is quicker and gives the impression of real battles because of the "Aerial View Effects"

Those Paperboys are fantastic, I am using them with my Fire and Fury Rules.
Regards,

MiŪko
