0-4-0 Loco – The Oregon Pony

Marj’s Models are now selling their model of the 0-4 -0 Oregon Pony locomotive.

This is available as a download, and is a really great kit of an unusual little loco, being very comprehensively put together.

It is also refreshing in that, in addition to the model, it includes a comprehensive history of the little loco, as well as 3d views and other items to inspire the builder!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Because of all the extra material, the PDF document is fairly lengthy – 35 pages in total. It starts with the title page, after which there are three pages of the history of the loco, nicely illustrated with period photographs and a map. The history is then followed by a page with credits and photographs of its current location at the Museum in Oregon.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Page 6 then provides instructions on the tools and materials needed and the notations used for the various fold marks.

Pages 7 and 8 are parts lists for the model. Very useful, as they give the part number and descriptions, the number of parts, and the page numbers where the parts can be located.

There is then a picture of a completed paper model.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The part identification diagrams are 10 pages long and consist of exploded colour isometric views, with all the various part numbers shown. The parts are first shown in “exploded view”, and then in place. This is clear enough and should make building the model easy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Following this, there are 8 pages of 3d renders – interesting, and also useful as an additional aid for the builder.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And lastly, there are 8 pages of the parts themselves – for a total of 380 individual parts.

Each part page is numbered and has a printed scale included – this should be checked after printing to ensure that your prints are all the same size in relation to each other. Drawings are neat and crisp, with a lot of parts having subtle shading.

There is also a very good thread here on the design and build of this model –

The Oregon Pony (a build thread)

Where to buy?

Simple!

The thread above was created by FRD who also designed the model and posted the build material.

Send him a PM and he will then send you a Paypal Invoice.

Once paid he will then send the model or give you a download link and you can print and start building!

The supplemental materials were done by Bernadette Murray-Macioce, a freelance writer and illustrator, I think she did a remarkable job as the Oregon Pony and the Columbia River Gorge are near and dear to her...

I just noticed that my pics have a funny colour cast - those colours are not the colours on the original PDF!
