Hi guys

Forgive lateish reply. I'm one of the fence sitter SA paper modelers... been a paper modeler about 8 years now. Located in Grahamstown in East Cape. Chatting to Modeling friends in Port Elizabeth Scale Modeling Club I understand there are a few members building in paper, so guess there are more like me out there.....so I think there is interest out there and the real probability of getting a group together, at least nationally....

Downloadable files are obviously the future. I have quite a few of my own Paper Trade publications available as downloads - for a quick list go to my site zeistbouwplaten.nl, Home page, >Lots of news. Mainly planes and trains, and a few ships. Of course you will need a good printer, and 160 gram paper (double the usual weight)

Thank you Diderick. I did not realise you had some download options - I will go and have a look.

I think for many modellers who live outside Europe downloadable files are the answer. The files can always be taken to a commercial printer here for printing.

Strangely many smaller producers of paper models are extremely resistant to providing downloads - when I have asked I have been told it will cause piracy! I just don't get it, given the fact that scanners exist!

The result is, of course, no sale on their side!

Possible Paper Model Group/Club

In terms of the idea of SA modellers getting together, I will give it another try.

If you are interested can you PM me with:
  • Your real name
  • Name on this forum
  • Your physical address,
  • Mobile number
  • Types of models you are interested in.
  • If you can host a get together as well (a bring and braai or something similar).
A couple of you sent this info to me before - please resend in case it has changed.

I will then collate all details and share them by mail with everyone to facilitate local contact with anyone in your immediate area.

We can then also look at the feasibility of a get-together, as well as possible kit swops, group builds etc. going forward.

Modellers in Swaziland, Lesotho, Namibia, Mocambique, Zimbabwe and Zambia are included in the above.

Yes Kevin, it is quite a list (for a small hobby-publisher!). They sold regualarly via Ecardmodels, but... So now I try to give some publicity to the fact that they can also be ordered via my own site zeistbouwplaten.nl!!
