Thanks Leif... Yes the last photo is a "before". Messed up the upload, and didn't want to redo it, as I figured everyone would know anyway. Yes, the Dremel does come in handy for the tires. Lot easier to control getting the shape right (for me at least), then when I do them by hand.

Very nice work, Peter. I need to get a new Dremel before the urge to build aircraft strikes again!

Probably one of the things you would want to do with the Dremel is soak the wheel in thin CA prior to sanding. Even at low setting, a rotary tool can be pretty harsh on untreated card.

Along the same lines, I've just used white glue to coat the outside and fill in any gaps, and let it sit overnight to make sure it's completely dry.

Thanks Chris.. That's what I did, and I should have said something in the post. The CA gives a nice hard surface that's a lot easier to sand, plus I use a real light weight sand paper (220) which gives me more control.

Just the CA, and then light weight paper at a low speed. Then just eyeballing them both to where they sort of look similar. I'll paint them up, and then touch up by hand sanding if they look a little off. Easier for me to see any mistakes when I've added some paint.

Also, fasten booth wheels together to sand the opposite outside curves, as if one thick wheel. Then change places, and do the same. Ensures equal size. - L.

good advice!

when you soak the wheels do you actually lay them down in CA or just squirt them to give them an even coating?
