Verrry clean, good looking build. Your propeller alignment jig is brilliant! It caused me to have one of those "now why didn't I think of that" moments.

Thanks Don. I thought I needed a ruler of some sort because my family always complains that I don't evenly cut the pizza into 6 slices:D

Hi everyone!

It's been a while since I froze this thread with my less-than-half funny joke. Well, I got over it and started working on the drop tanks. Believe it or not, the actual tanks were also made of paper. So at least for the drop tanks, this model is more realistic than any plastic models

Actually, the drop tank is the most complex part of this model. It has a single skin part with petals on both ends and two formers inside. It is like a puzzle and you have to plan carefully before you start building it. Here is what I came up with:

  1. Roll the skin part into a tube
  2. Flatten the skin part again and roll the petals on both end
  3. Glue the formers so that the edge of the former is attached to inside of the skin by a point.
  4. Glue the connecting strip to one side of the opening.
  5. Close the skin by gluing the rest of the edge of the formers and gluing the connecting strip to the other side of the opening
  6. Glue the petals.

Now the tank is all glued together.

Hmm...something isn't right. They don't look like drop tanks. They are like some sort of vegetables (peppers...or heard of okra?). So I decided to sand the edges to smooth out the shape. I also painted the raw paper white exposed by sanding.

Well, the shape got better, but I don't think I did great painting it. I hope it will be less noticeable when they are attached under the wing...

That's it for today!

Thanks,
Shinji

Shinji-san, it must be difficult to build the tank that has petal forms on both ends but finally it turned out to be a nice tank.

What I came up with is to cut it into two pieces.....

Very useful info on the drop tank construction. Thanks, Shinji, and Yu-sama, for your advice on how to deal with double ended petal forms.

Thanks Yu-san for your advice with a nice drawing. The challenging part of having petals on both end is that there is no way you can apply glue from inside. If you do it your way, you can apply glue from inside at least for one end. I think that would help building the tanks clean.

Hi everyone!

I worked on the rest of the parts today. Not much left, just a couple of hardware for the drop tank (I don't know how they are called).

This is boring...

Boring...

And...
