Impressive Peter. I wish I could get my seams to be as perfect as those.

Thanks Ray, but believe me they are far from perfect..
I'm mounting the top wing and decided it would be easier to do the assembly separately on the middle fuselage section instead of gluing all the sections together first. Easier for me to handle and rig without having to worry about screwing up the delicate tail..
Parts for the cabane struts...

After attaching those struts, I gave all the sections a few light coats of "Future" to seal and blend any touch-ups to this point.

Made up my other inter-wing struts, and then painted them a silver-grey..Can see that they'll need a light sanding to get that roughness out.

Added the what rigging I good before mounting the wing..

Attached the upper wing to the cabane struts, and stuck it in an improvised jig (a box) to sit until dry.. Based on the theory of using "whatever works"..

Great idea with the jig. What glue do you use to glue the wires to the wings?

Interesting idea - waiting with gluing the tail on, until the wings are attached - seems easier in manipulation and final alignment of them all.

Some good ideas here for rigging. It's a real cat's cradle!

Thanks.. the jig came about when the thought hit me, "that I'm tired of holding this so lets see if it will sit in this box".. Actually worked out quite well.. I used "Aleene's Tacky Glue"..a white water base glue. I pre-made the holes in the wing.. tied a knot on the end of the wire.. dipped the knot in the glue, and then inserted in the hole pushing it in with a needle. Wire is 3lb monofiliment fly tying thread. Pre-colored by dragging it through a drop of silver enamel while keeping a light pressure on the thread with my finger. Pulling it through with one pass only, and then hanging it to dry.
I test fitted the rear fuselage first to see if there was going to be any fit problems and it was fine, so shouldn't be any problem to attach later. Definitely easier to work and handle this way because of the size.

main struts added..

Have added the main struts.. In rigging, I like to run the ones in-between the struts first, and then work from the fuselage outward.

I haven't commented for a while, but when I start working on some WW1 planes, this is a thread I'll go back and study as you've got some excellent techniques described that are helping you come out with an awesome model!

I echo Dan's comments. This thread is a keeper for the techniques, the clear description, the excellent photos, and for the beauty of the protoype and the model.

Peter, this is superb work! I'm really looking forward to seeing the completed model, and have added this model to my list of "to buys". I never would've thought of building and rigging the center section of the fuselage as a unit, then attaching the nose and tail. I'm going to try that with my WAK Albatros.
