Marek Marathon: Morane Saulnier AI - Polish Air Force 1921

Chris have kindly sent me the requested Polish MS AI (thank you), there is no time to waste (15 days to the end of the marathon), so I'm showing the results of my 2 days of building the model.

I printed the model in a closeby Xerox point (Color Laser printer).

I started with scoring the lines of inner construction showing through the fabric of the plane body. First I marked the ends of the lines, then pressed with an empty ballpen from behind.

I started to build all the body at once :)

The tail

The cockpit

The engine cover (I wanted to cut the holes so I didn't glued inside the part 38a but painted grey instead). I worked hard to make it rounded.

Then I've made the vertical tail (I had to cut into its base to accomodate to the shape of the hull)

And started the horizontal tail

The model was glued using Brand Clear Glue (BCG). I used minimal amounts of Cyanoacrylate Adhesive (CA) in the engine cover - to stabilise the ends of the rings, and glued the windshield using butapren glue.

The engine cover is perfect! I also like that you scored the rear section of the fuselage.

All that in TWO days?! Wow!

And is it just me, or are there others who are inclined to suspect that Polish modelers are born with some sort of innate card modeling advantage the rest of us lack??

Very nice work!

Awesome job on the cowl. I'd love to see more of how you managed that

Yes, the cowl was meant to be impressive It was my first try to make the rounded effect. I achieved it by forming the rings on the soft material (the underside of my mouse pad) with the rounded end of my Olfa AK-3 knife (you can see this kind of action on one of the photos - the yellow rounded stick), then after gluing the rings together I applied some more BCG from inside and rolled the cowl again - on the cutting mat. All the holes in the rings were cut before gluing it all together.

Two days only because I'm grounded - I've severed my Achilles tendon 3 months ago, had an operation, 6 weeks in plaster cast, and now I still have to go on crutches - so time I have plenty and I intend to use it to the most.

As for the innate ability, I'm still learning and am far behind some grand modelers who's work I admire - mostly on the Polish modelling forums, trying to peep their techniques - and of course there is practice, practice, practice - testing ideas that come in to your head.

Thanks for the applause - it is very welcome

Hi, absolutely lovely, the cowling.
Is that right...you did not use any connection stripes at the cowling, just gluing the edges together?
Oh my goodness....great accurate work:D
Just saw some mdels on papermodels.pl.....and just wanted to stop cardmodeling immediately :o

Great stuff..that I will never reach, what a pity !

Greetings,
Stephan

I didn't used any connection stripes at all, except for this part:

Also thing to add - the scoring was very simple and at the same time necessary to glue this build correctly - the skeleton circles were not round but had multiple sides. And scoring made forming the parts very pleasant - it was much, much simpler than rolling the usual oval shapes.

And about leaving the modelling altogether because someone does it magnificently... Lets just say that for me it's an incentive to make it even better so that the person who's work I admire will comment that it's superbly done :D
