Metal Works Huey

Here are some pictures of the completed Huey. The skids got kind of mangled.

Some advice if you make one of these is to insert and bend the tabs on parts 11, the elevators, before joining the port and starboard body parts; and to insert and bend the tabs on the skids, part 13, to the floor, part 12, before attaching the floor to the body.

Interesting model of this great old bird, Doug. I have a special fondness for the Huey, having spent so much time in them.

I missed the back story on this one. What is the model made of?

It is made of steel with the parts laser cut.
The Huey is a one sheet model. The sheet is 4-3/8" X 4-3/8" or 11cm X 11cm and around 0.21mm thick.
Here is the website listed on the package that has a bunch of the models:
Metal Works by Fascinations Unique Toys & Gifts
All of the model sheets seem to be the same dimensions with some of the models on multiple sheets. The Black Pearl ship model is on two sheets.

I ordered the Huey off of Amazon.com after not being able to find it anywhere locally.

The Huey looks really cool. I had not heard of these before until my son gave me a Corsair last Christmas. I have yet to put it together though.

I'd love to get the Black Pearl.

Best Regards,

You should put the Corsair together. The models turn out real nice. A good pair of needle nosed pliers and a good pair of eyes is real helpful too.

There is a Golden Hind model too. Probably will try that sometime soon.

Another Completed Huey

Great little kit! Was shopping for other items and saw these at variety store here in Alaska. Bought the Huey for $5.99 and the LM for $11.99.

Doug, nailed it on the head about the stabilizer on the tailboom.

Kept bending the whole assembly trying to get a needlenose inside to twist or bend the tabs. Finally gave up and put a drop of superglue on the inside...

Then saw in the instructions best to use tweezers, after my build will try to find a good set to use on the LM.

I did use my jewler's magnifying headset to see where the tabs needed to go.

Three photos of my 45-minute build.

BTW-The stabilizers on the back adjust automatically to airspeed/weight to keep the body in the correct CG range. On a helicopter the CG range is really close to the mast, not a big range like on airplanes. They adjust as airspeed increases to create a downforce on the tail to balance the load up front. Vectored thrust is how you climb/descend and accelerate/slow down (flare) or turn.

Another excellent Metal Earth Huey! I love these kits. I have the SR-71 waiting to be built right now.
