Paper Cardstock Stomp Rocket Projects
The best part of designing Paper Stomp Rockets?
The limits haven't been found yet. Sure the physics are defined. The actual designing and building of the models is just now starting. I like to set goals when I start a project. Design goals as well as "Operational" goals. One design that just screamed for a Stomp Rocket conversion was the very first Liquid Fuel Rocket that Robert H. Goddard designed and then flew on March 16, 1926. The full size rocket was almost 10ft high, burned fuel for 2 seconds+ and reached 60mph on its way to an Altitude of 41ft. This model (photos) is exactly 50% scale of the original, except for the 1/2" tubes. At 50% scale they would be 1/4" diameter. At 1/2" they are way to hard to make for their length. I've tried my long fuselage gluing method as well as rolling and then gluing each section together to make the final length. I need help/advice on how to do these long tubes without distortion/twisting??? The goal for this project was a full size rocket (1ft = 1ft) that goes at least to 41ft AGL. No other rocket offers a chance to match the goal that this rocket does. That goal is now on hold until I learn a new way of doing these small long tubes. The tubes need to be 62" long at 1/2" diameter to be used for full scale. The model shown will probably get flown tomorrow as it is getting dark already and the glue isn't dry yet. Sorry Mike. I got distracted by the 6-panel doors. I changed all mine at home from the standard hollow flat ones.
Nice models indeed Sir. Can't wait to hear how your flight goes tomorrow. Thanks for sharing. Cheers Jim |

Dear Mike:
How about using a mandrel 1/4" PVC Pipe and Wrap and glue like a soda straw in a sprial? for extra strenght use two layers wrapped in opicate directions? Hope this helps, MILES I've got pictures of pink rockets if the computer would just talk to the carera |

Hi Miles,
Might try it at first with just regular paper to see if it is possible. It would make it much simpler if it does. Thanks for the quick response and Great Idea! Best regards, Mike Bauer |

First Flight Test of Paper Stomp Rocket Model of 1st Liquid Fueled Rocket
One stomp to send this rocket to 40ft high. Came straight down on the launch tube. No real damage though.
Flies fairly stable as the movie shows. Photos show the rocket on the launch system, no in flight photos as the batteries quit before I could do a second flight. This photo shows other models being test flown same day as well. Dimond shaped wing didn't fly to well... One model of a set of 1950 Real rocket planes I'm working on. This one is the X-15 Delta wing that never flew. It was designed to test the Shuttles drag profile, but after several flights of the normal X-15 it was decided the delta wing version wasn't needed. I found 3-different versions of this particular model, I choose the version with wingtip stabilizers. Best regards, Mike Bauer |

Stomp Rocket Stability Rocket Test Flight
This rocket was designed to test the stability of placing three sets of stabilizer fins along the fuselage.
Rocket turns into a glider that keeps climbing and stalling until it gets stuck in a 75ft tall tree. Model was at the 20ft level and was real easy to dislodge with a 2"x4"x8" board and a long rope tied around the middle. Threw 2x4 over the limb and then pulled down on it to "spring" the model free. Photo shows rocket on the ground before test flight. Notice the three sets of fins along the fuselage. Other rocket shown uses tubes instead of fins. Best regards, Mike Bauer |

Mike...I love the videos!!
its one thing I really look forward to! I only wish they would be longer! lol maybe with some narrative? maybe two or three launches in one video? music? dancing girls? anything, just to pad them out a bit? I just start getting into the thing and its over! lol I also see you have some new videos...or at least some i haven't seen yet? I love the Saturn V in the snow! Betcha NASA didn't plan for that!? haha I stumbled upon this (YouTube) gem... another Saturn V scale model. This'll make you say "oh s#*t"

I was thinking more of, "F'ing awsome" but, "oh s#*t" came to mind when I first saw the rocket.
Nice vid, thank you for sharing it. Love your vids to Mike. |
