MM Armor Contest Japanese Medium Tank Chi-He

Charlie,
I hope you don't mind...

Being in a modeling slump (again ) I decided to follow Ron's example and try something totally different from my usuall building subjects to see if this helps me to overcome it. Just as Ron did, I started a tank - much simpler though
Since MM contest is still open and I already hinted at building Chi-He, it was time to cut some card. One afternoon later I have the chasiss on the way. Progress is not spectacular but I'm adding riveting and some raised panels that were not included in the kit that are slowing me down

Oh frabjous day! Master Mike takes on an IJA tank. I'm going to enjoy watching this!

You're off to a great start with that beautiful, clean, and dress-right-dress frame.

Ganbatte!

Mike,
This is great! I look forward to seeing how you handle this one, especially the additions you are making. Can you describe them in more detail...please?

Thank you, gents.

Chris,
So far the only additions I made are visible on third photo - narrow band under the long narrow former on top and some plate between those parallel lines. I also added riveting (now I see that one came loose..).
I will try to illustrate how I made them down the road - didn't think about getting a photo...
There is plenty of surpluss color included in the model plus I'm using a second kit as reserve of spare parts - as I said, I never built a tank before so I expect to make some dumb mistakes

you will need the spare parts and/or color to finish the tension wheels correctly as not enough parts are provided for the rim pieces. Otherwise this tank builds easily and is a good one for those who are just starting out or haven't built a tank in a while.

Good luck to you on this build.

Greg

Thanks Greg.

Frame of the tank is ready. I would feel more comfortable if the frames were of the tab-and-slot variety, but use of the sides as part of the frame prevents that. No matter - so far no issues and I'm really enjoying bigger parts

Cool, Mike! Good start. Really like the rivets. I have this in my stack, so it will be fun to get some ideas from you!

Rick,
I'm cutting 1.2mm circles using screw punch, color the edge and then use Fiskar's tool with two balls at the end (sorry, forgot the name of it ) to make the disk into a little dome. Then a tiny drop of glue onto the printed rivet and using scalpel blade apply the replacement.
I will try to take photos of the process if I can convince my wife to help out with the camera
