OK, here we go again! Here's a few of the shots lost in the recent crash;

I messed up the hull something awful on this one and there's no real hope for it, but I'm determined to get all the way through... at least as a learning experience (that's what life is, isn't it?).
After much sanding, patching, sanding, patching, etc., I wound up with a hopeless mess. Possibly worse than my original screw up. But at a distance, if the light is right, it's not horribly obvious (of course, it IS horribly obvious up close or if the light is wrong!:o).
At any rate, I've decided to move on. I realize now that this may not have been the best kit choice for me as a lot of the smaller assemblies don't seem to be covered in the diagrams. I'm having to go through fotos on the net to try and sort a few things out here and there. I may need to abandon a part or two along the way, but I hope to keep that to a minimum.
I painted the hull and glued the deck frame on;

It's a bit crooked here and there, and I had to do some trimming on it once I test fit the deck skins;

I've glued down the deck and added the basic conning tower;

It's almost starting to look a little like a submarine! I've gone a bit farther with some smaller parts, but haven't got photos of that yet.
Now the fun begins with all the little parts. No idea how I'm going to do the rails yet, is there a standard approach?

Got all the paper together on this one. Next step will be all the railings, rigging and radar;

While it still looks pretty darn rough, it looks more like a submarine than I thought it would.

The gun could use a little more detail, not sure if I'll ever get to it, though;

I was thinking I might try to do the railings out of paper. They should probably be wire, though. Any thoughts on the best approach?

I look forward to getting this one into the paint shop to see what more damage I can do to it!

For railings you have to go the thread and dilute PVA route! Full details on David Hathaway's site...

Paper Shipwright - Card Models

or Yug;s Hiei.

IJN Hiei 1:300 - Maly

I find using super glue is just too messy!

Cool is that you build Polish ship. The model looks good. I attached a few helpful things. Pictures No.2 and No.3 is ORP Sokół. Photo No.1 ORP Dzik - probably in 1943's.

D-H, thanks for the links. Exactly what I needed to give me some perspective on the next step! I was thinking of something like Yugi's technique; maybe spot gluing the rails in place with thick CA and then a dab of epoxy for durability (I tend to be heavy-handed handling things and CA isn't the most durable glue).
I'll have a couple of tries to see what feels right.
And thank you Ramm for the photos, especially the closer shots of the Sokol. These will help me understand a lot more. The railings seem much thinner than what I've seen on other builds of the Dzik, so maybe the glue and string method could work.
Thanks guys! I appreciate all the help and encouragement a lot.

This is the first I've looked at this thread. Seems I've been missing quite a bit. I really like this build, great job!
