MM ship contest ORP "DZIK"

I don't have a lot of faith in my ship building skills, but I've always liked the proportions of this sub, so here goes!

Foolishly thinking he can do this,

Of course you can

quite similar to making airplanes - are the submarines
The most important thing to remember is to keep a keen eye on the lines of the hull - or it will end as banana :p

This should be a great build. Just keep it away from Captain Nemo!

I had a copy of this sub and sarted building it over six years ago.. It is still a work in progress! After two moves from one house to another and back, I plan to finish it up, once I find the parts sheets to finish cutting them out!

We need a few more submariners on this site. Looking forward to seeing your project.

Right on, Michael! You can never have too many submariners (except on a submarine!)

I've been suspiciously eyeing this kit since the day it came out, buying it in Poland while I was there for a few months. Tempted to build it and at the same time repulsed by the super thick black lines on every part.
Will be nice to see it.

Obviously, I haven't even gotten a start on this one yet.:o:o:o Summer/real life/stuff have gotten in the way a bit, but seeing activity in this thread with nothing happening is making me feel guilty, so I'd better do something!
Now I know this has been answered dozens of times, but for the life of me I can't find the info now that I need it. The formers are each marked with a number of asterisks, two or three or four. Does anyone know if there is a mm or inch equivalent to these? I'm guessing **** is probably 2mm, *** is maybe 1.5mm and ** is 1mm??? It looks like all the slots are drawn the same size, so it's impossible (at least for me) to judge thicknesses from the slot sizes.
Do my assumptions sound about right and do you think it'll make that much of a difference if I'm off a bit?
Chris

Most of my kits have * = 1mm. It has been my expirence that if the formers are too thick or thin, the skins will not fit correctly. Usually if I use the slot thickness for former thickness it comes out ok. But that is just my opinion.

Chris, the instructions are on the back cover.
Usually this stuff falls under "Uwagi ogolne" meaning "general notes".
In this case, he uses * per 0.5mm ...
* 0.5
** 1
**** 2

I've never seen 4 *'s before, so this guy is quite a character. They're really not consistent between models so I always try to read what they say. Sometimes it's hidden in the text.

Honestly though, being skimpy on cardboard I sometimes use thinner stuff in these MM kits and they end up fine. 2mm is a really hassle to work with and is sometimes unjustified in my mind.

Maybe I should be starting something soon too...
