Questions about making buttons and knobs

I'm fairly new to modeling with paper and need help improving my buttons and knobs. My biggest problem is fitting the side strip to the disc. Is there a trick to getting the edges nicely rounded? For smaller buttons I can sometimes curl a strip of paper (like a clock spring) and that seems to work most of the time.

paper Q-tip sticks or paper lolly-pop sticks do the trick. You can cut them a pull layers off to get the right diameter and they can be "painted" with a felt tip marker. This works on many cases. It is how a lot of cheat when making the 1/250 scale deck fittings on ships. I do anyhow.

Depending on the size, for small buttons or rivets, I have a micro hole punch and I punch out from a flat sheet to multiple glued laminates to get the buttons. Anything smaller, I go to drops of glue to very thin wires.

At my level, I'm still a little more macro with paper.:D I have a couple school-type hole punches, but paper sticks sounds like a good idea. Paper strips work most of the time. I used to paint 25mm figures, and yes, glue or paint drops do make good buttons.

I think it's just my inexperience with paper and glue. There seems to be a point where you have to stop messing with it before it starts turning to pulp. Here's an example: Picasa Web Albums - Matthew
