Hey Aaron,
When people dislike something they complain, when they like something they just smile. Unfortunately you don't get to hear the smiles. Be rest assured that you have brought thousands of smiles to peoples faces. |

Your sales bear out that your designs are filling a niche. Keep that in mind. If people didn't like them, they wouldn't buy them. And keep buying them.

I look forward to many more of your fine models, Aaron.
There is definitely a place for well-designed models that accurately represent the prototypes and that can be built in a reasonable period of time. Don |

Thanks guys. Sometimes when the going gets tough, then somebody dumps a chamber pot on my head. It's always nice to come here for a pickup.
Finally got the Proteus completed: |

Mercator P4M BETA build
Quote:
The other thing was, as a matter of preference, I used 'glue strips' that I made using the part tabs as a pattern and the generous margins for material. Since I used the provided tabs to create the strips, I still was able to validate the tab designs. So far, the fit has been generally very good. I am not skilled enough to get the best of some parts (my wingtip for example is a bit 'crumpled' from my efforts at contouring it...) but in spite of my technique, the critical fits are working out even for me. One minor critique is that the 'panel line' detail has essentially disappeared on the dark blue when I printed the parts. Often, I will use the control surface demarcation lines to do a 'burnished' relief detail however that's not possible here. Also, the "well outlines" for the main landing gear wells may be present, but I cannot see them and will have to create a pattern for making the cut outs. Speaking of the mains, I was a little stumped on how to get the interior in place, but then I realized I have a couple of options (and I may try both): work it from the open end of the wing, or make the cut-outs and then just slide in from the outside through the hole. Either should work - the 'cut & then insert' method might allow for better alignment. Having fun doing this, wish I had a bigger block of time to just sit down and finish it up in one session. (Don't we all!) Thanks again for the opportunity to do the BETA.

I fixed the panel line issue (hopefully) by making the lines a grayish color. Hopefully it'll work out.
Just working through the Backlog, finally got the Boeing 787 built. Even the engine pylons I was worried about were no problem. I know it's supposed to be blue. My printer only prints black & white at the moment |

Dude, that looks great! Can't wait for that (and the KC-87 stealth tanker).
Niki BTW, posted pics of the Do-31, very nice design, no build issues. |

The P4M looks great, Robert! I am capturing your narrative and images for a hoped for future build.

Gotta do some research on flying tankers. My brother says "You gotta give the windows serrated edges, All stealth fighters have serrated edges on their windows." Then I gotta decide on a boom, or drogue system. Last edited by murphyaa; 03-14-2012 at 09:40 AM. |
