The official trucking term is 4-wheelers.

There are more colorful terms for them, but most aren't repeatable in mixed company.

After 4 months of school, I've come to the conclusion that some form of drivers training should be a requirement to get any kind of license.

Calinous, I wish they were Sunday drivers since I'm usually off on weekends. Richkat agree with you. No offense to rocks, but a lot of them are dumber then rocks.

Good Show Aaron. I do curse you guys out at times on the autobahn though, mostly when some bright spark feels he has to overtake the truck ahead of him as it is doing 80 Km/H and he is doing 80.5 Km/H...

Yup, they call them "elephant races". I hated it as well. But, they still do it here, its just not illegal like it was in Germany.

Don't blame the trucker. Most trucks are limited as to how fast they are allowed to go. Not to mention we have to shift through 7 to 9 gears just to get up to 35 mph.

What freaks me out are the 4-wheelers in the newer little cars (Mini Cooper, Smart Car, etc) who think that just because their little roller skate can stop on a dime, the 80,000 pound truck they just cut off and stopped 30 feet ahead of can do the same.

I'm half afraid I'm gonna pull into a truck stop one night, do my walkaround, and find a Smart Car smashed on the grill like a bug.

Like that trucker in England awhile ago driving down the highway and didn't notice the small car stuck to the front of his truck

Exactly.

What most people don't realize is that depending on the shape of the nose of the truck (Angled down like a Kenworth T700, or straight out like a Peterbilt 379 Long Nose), there's a 10 to 20 foot blind spot directly in front of most trucks.

Quite literally, if you can't see the driver's eyes, he can't see you.

We're required by law to stop 10 to 20 feet behind the double line of a crosswalk for just that reason. You never know when some old lady with a walker is gonna decide to jaywalk against the light. (One of my instructor's colorful examples).

European trucks are a bit better, as the only company that makes long nose cabs is Scania, making them very, very rare. The rest is the cab over engine type, which still has a blindspot (or several, in fact) and a real mess of mirrors to cope with the blindspots.
