When I was about 7 years old, sometime in late 1956, early 1957 I was horsing around in my backyard, South of Albuquerque. We lived about 3 miles, as the crow flies, SW of the edge of the runways at Kirtland AFB.

I could easily hear the B-36's doing touch and goes, for hours on end, at Kirtland. I clearly recall one day seeing a B-36 with a "Fat fuselage" pass very slowly overhead, headed almost directly South from our house. I watched it for several minutes until it made a slow turn to the east and then to the Northeast, disappearing over the Sandia Mountains east of the city....

When my dad got home that night, I told him what I'd seen and he said that there had been a "modified B-36" at Kirtland earlier in the day, but he knew nothing about it.

I've always wondered it I saw the XC-99 on its way to places unknown?? Is there any way I could ever find out if it paid a visit to Albuquerque back then?

just got me thinking about that day,

SFX

Last update before I head off to bed. Here she is with her panel lines on.

Upcoming models-big-plane.jpg

I think the fuselage is what's gonna limit the size on this one. The bigger the tube, the smaller the scale. Unfortunately the real thing didn't have any panel lines where I could hide a split.

A Convair XC-99, love the big transports. For interest sake, there's also the Douglas C-133 Douglas C-133 Cargomaster - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The only turboprop strategic airlifter operated by the USAF.

How's the F-5/T-38/X-29 coming along?

Regards

Niki

I like to do a big model every once in a while.

As to the F-5/T-38/X-29... I'm trying to figure out how to combine all 3 into a single hybrid model.

In that case, the T-38 on it's own would be a good bet (T-Bird colours, NASA, USAF trainer...)

And of course you won't be able to let those wings go to waste, Aaron...so you'll just have to do a B-36!

I was about to say that. For right now, I'm not designing any models that FG already has. Our styles are too similar.
