Hmm, doing some research on the B-57...
Practically a new plane from the RB-57: -New wings (narrower chord, shorter wingspan, dihedral instead of anhedral) -Shorter engines -Smaller vertical tail -Different cockpit Might take a while to do a redesign |

I remember reading one time about a USN Admiral that was complaining about those d*%n British Canberras making mock attack runs on "his" ship with impunity. That was until the Crusader came around! Really with the different variants within this bomber the modeling possibilities are almost unlimited. In the Vietnam conflict alone there were 4 different variants used: B-57B B-57C B-57G Night Intruder RB-57E Patricia Lynn project john |

Not to put too fine a point on it but the B-57A was essentially a Canberra B.2 license-built by the Martin Aircraft Company. Only eight were built and they never saw squadron service, being used for testing. The RB-57A did see squadron service in Europe and in the Pacific. Most RB-57As ended up in the ANG with the exception of a couple dozen that were converted to EB-57As as trials aircraft against Allied SAM systems. The B-57A family were the only British designed Canberras used by the USAF.
All later B-57 models were "home-grown" American versions (re)designed and produced by Martin.

YB you are right.......... but it is neat that this was the first "foreign" build aircraft adopted by the USAF, it also proves that the original design was a classic in that it was a good aircraft from the start and adapted easily to many, many differnet roles.
With the Global Economy now this seems to be the rule instead of the exception............. |

I agree, John. The Canberra/B-57 in its numerous forms and liveries is one of my all-time favorites.

Finally got the NASA WB-57 finished. Just gotta make up the cover page, and bundle it off to Ecardmodels.
I also started on the B-57. After pulling the 3-views into the RB-57 Rhino file, I discovered a few more differences between the 2, like a completely different nose. So, I'm starting the B-57 over from scratch. |
