But it's the ID or "recognition model" style that Aaron is talking about - a straight up black model with just white lines for basic panels, control surfaces, and canopies.

....or else perhaps print (?)yellow lines on black paper ... just another thought.

Spotters are interesting because they are usually easier to build and very cool looking when build (even odd ones). When I commissioned Fiat G.50 Curtiss Owl was one of the planes I was considering. It lost to Fiat since drawings for G.50 are readily available and Curtis Owl is not very popular subject for models, drawings are not so good either.
For the Curtiss Owl, did you mean the O-52 Owl?

I actually have access to a 1:1 scale version of one of those, so it would have been a lot easier to design than the Fiat is being.

As a connoisseur of Between-The-Wars aircraft, I'd love an O-52! Maybe an O-47 as well?

Yes! to O-47 and O-52. And then, the Douglas O-46.

Must be a vintage scheme nod to those spotter models .

We do need an Owl!!! I'd buy one, and definitely the Douglas O-46 and North American O-47, too. I think there are pretty good Paul Matt scale drawings for both.

Maybe this version of the Colt might be of interest to those who prefer a more terrestrial pursuit
