Aaron: Question on tabs

Aaron (or anyone who builds OBP models):

I know OBP aircraft models have integral tabs at the joints, yet when I look at other modelers' builds, I honestly don't see a ridge where the sections meet. Is my eyesight lacking, or is there some trick I'm missing?

I know some modelers make their own joining strips, but if I don't have to....

Some folks will remove a layer from both the tab area and the part it is being joined to. I
cannot say who uses this method just by looking at the pics. Most of the modelers just cut
them off and make their own, just so they don't have the ridge look.

Me, I have used both, depending on the parts to be put together.

One method is to slightly dilute the glue with water, thereby softening the paper at the glue seam.

I personally just glue as normal and squeeze the seam as it dries. Tabs work just fine for me.

I'm not the person to ask regarding glue tabs. I'm lucky if I can get the seams to line up. There's a reason I don't post many pics of my builds.

I count myself fortunate that people with great skills have taken an interest in my work.

Niki,

So you built the Hound Dog displayed on Ecardmodels using the integral tabs??? That's a prime example of the "seamless" builds I was talking about.

Most of my OBP (and just about anyone else's) builds I remove the tabs then use the part edge to draw up 1cm wide glue tabs that are divided in half. They I glue on the inside at the opposite side of the long seam. THis gives a nice butt edge joint so it comes out smooth.

Yip, integral tabs. I'm quite proud of that build.
