Navion

OK, I blew the dust off Murphy's Navion that had been in my garage and also pulled out from the bone yard an attempt at doing it in Soda Can.

Just purchased and printed his Korea era, Marines F-4U Corsair. Very pretty. Some day I'll get to that C-32. I like that I don't have to make a bunch of little cylinders for the motor too.

Great models, Knife and Michael!

A beautiful Navion, Bob! Do you or Murph know if it is in the color scheme of an actual U.S. Army L-17 or U-18 aircraft? There are lots of images of it as civil N8995H with that pretty color scheme and the tail number 47-995, but I can't find any evidence of an Army bird with that color scheme or registration. Joe Baugher indicates that the serials of military Navions were 47-1297 to 1379 (1946-1948 USAAF-USAF Serial Numbers).

Several site provide images and info on the aircraft as a civil bird, but no info on its military history, if any. For example:
Aerial Visuals - Airframe Dossier - North American-Ryan Navion, c/n NAV-4-0995, c/r N8995H
https://flightaware.com/resources/registration/N8995H
Aircraft Data N8995H, 1947 North American NAVION C/N NAV-4-995

Whatever its history, Murph did a great job of capturing an actual Navion in a colorful and attractive color scheme, and you did a super job of building it. I just have this drive to find out more about U.S. Army aircraft.

Finished C-33 (well, almost since aerials aren't there).I did a number of shortcuts like replaced engines with photos of engines and method of wing assembly is almost direct copy of old Maly Modelarz way.Came out really good and it is full size and BIG.At the moment it's the largest airplane I have. It's sort of a gift and it will be hanging in friends office so size did matter.I have to make a few corrections on files before sending them to Aaron.

Navion color

Howdy Don,

No, but I certainly hope to see it on the full size bird. Such as;
it appears Planes of Fame, Chino CA has completed its rebuild
and the Navion is ready for the paint shop.

Snap shot taken April 7, 2018

Back in 1958 the Fort Eustis, VA Army flying club had two or three, painted white with a red stripe. The cockpits were still olive drab and showed service wear.

I copied the civilian paint jobs, because I liked them. I also found pics of a yellow Navy one, but haven't gotten around to doing the repaint yet.

I like how that came out. Very attractive color scheme. I printed my Panagra version and have been studying the parts and reading up on the originals. Thanks for the nice clear pictures.

I didn't have any Zero and was inspired by MichaelS build of one -here is the result. No changes apart from scale down to 3 page format.Very easy and well fitting model. It's a lot easier than Buffalo imho.

Too bad there are so few pitures or drawings of post-war captured examples of A6M used in Korea,China or Taiwan (or anywhere else). This model would make nice canvas to make them.
