Bovington Tanks Museum visit
Hi,
in my holidays last week I was able to visit the Tank Museum in Bovington on two days. It's an absolutely fantastic experience! You only realize how many vehicles they have if you try to take pictures of them all. It seems as every day, there is a special tour to a tank, with guides that tell about the operation and specifications of the vehicle. I had luck, on the first day it was about the Mark IV tank of the First World War. Groups of 8 persons each could step into the original vehicle and the guide explained the difficult steering operations, changing gears and how the communication worked. This was the first time I realized how small those large-looking machines were and how uncomfortable they are even for just sitting in them. The museum itself is great for taking pictures, light conditions are good and you can step to each vehicle from each side without barriers, except for Little Willie and the Mark I tank. If you have the chance, I really recommend it! [The pictures are a selection of the 1400+ pictures I took there (but covered only 33 tanks)... enjoy!] Thorsten |
