Intrepid museum in NYC - August 2013
I had an opportunity to visit my son on the cruise ship Carnival Glory he works on while in New York City. Got to tour the ship as well.
It was docked next to the Intrepid aircraft carrier which is a floating museum. I have been to the museum on many occasions, however these are the first from next to it. I snapped these photos from the cruise ship pier. The Cruise ship Glory A view from Pier 88 ( cruise ship pier ) The Intrepid and aircraft Since I have seen the museum many times including a few years ago ( since it was refurbished ), I did not see a point in visiting again. The only difference is that they added the space shuttle in an enclosed structure. However, the shuttle is of no interest to me, so unlesss they add some more interesting aircraft, it will be a while for me to go on board again. I would strongly encourage you to visit if you are in NYC as a tourist. Cheers Isaac

Thanks for the images, Isaac. We get to NYC once or twice a year, but have yet to visit Intrepid.

To put is in an opposite view, here are a couple of pictures I took in 2009 from the Intrepid looking at the direction of the Pier 88 from which the first post pictures were taken from.
From the Concord side From the Regulus side Taking time off from building. Isaac

I toured the Intrepid in 2010 and also the USS Growler sub next to it. I don't think they had the Concord open yet, If they did I didn't know about it. I want to go back again some day.

My first two years in the Navy I was stationed on the USS Intrepid in the mid 60's. She sure looks different then when she was on Yankee station in the Gulf of Tonkin.
You know you are old when you ship is a museum. Jim Nunn

Isaac, thanks for the photos. Thinking about the Tillamook thread where they're looking at moving due to damage from ocean air to the a/c, they must have to really stay on top of things here to keep things looking good.
