More wierd tractors
Finally got around to getting this show from January in Wellton, AZ loaded up. Always a few weird ones show up.
2013-01-19 Wellton 35th Annual Tractor Rodeo - Wayne Hulsey (whulsey)'s Photos 1937 Eimco Wheel Horse for the farmer that still liked horses; listed as a 1949 Chrysler, probably built by Custom Mfg. Company using a lot of Dodge truck parts and a Chrysler industrial engine; a steel wheel Avery, Sears Economy using a Model A engine and grille; Huber cross motor, love those steel wheels. |

Thanks for the pics. Five new ones for me!
I love tractors. I collect diecasts of tractors and now have over 100 (in a box!). Wife objected eventually as they took every surface! What always amazes me is the sheer variety of makes and models - in the past certainly far more then car makes and models. I am always finding out about new (old) tractors!

Thanks guys. Just wish there were more models at least in 1/25-24 available and especially of the older ones.
Kevin, I do have 1 diecast, an excellent 1/16 Fordson F steel wheel that I bought last spring. Couldn't resist. Will disagree a bit on the number of car vs tractor manufacturers. I have a list put together by the Antique Car Club of America that lists over 5000 registered American car manufacturers since 1899. Granted there were probably a very significant number that never actually got a car, or only a prototype, build. An interesting subset is the ones that at least tried to build both; or move into trucks or buses in addition to tractors. A great example is Fageol, that started with buses, then tractors and then trucks that became the start of Peterbilt. Peterbilt become of course one of the major components of Pacific Car and Foundry or Paccar that is now one of the dominant truck manufacturers in the world. |

Thanks for that interesting info. Most of my models are 1/43 +/-.
There are a few model kits of military tractors now. A nice affordable Russian one is available from Trumpeter in 1/35. A lovely little kit with nearly 500 parts! TRUMPETER?china????? Noted your comments on the area and tractor numbers. ---------------- 5,000 is a huge number. I cannot but accept your correction! I never knew that there were that number of manufacturers in the States alone!

Didn't know about the Trumpeter kit. Looks like a lot of Cat in its DNA.
For that 5000 as I said many of the companies never actually got to the point of building a car. America had a lot of mechanical dreamers and schemers in the early 1900s. Then they tried to build cars, now they do financial tricks. |
