American Military Museum
Here's one a bit different then my usual old cars or tractors. The American Military Museum located in South El Monte in the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area.
2013-05-18 American Military Museum CA - Wayne Hulsey (whulsey)'s Photos A few examples: Marmon Herrington armored car, MC_2500 30T mobile crane, MJ-1A bomb loader, WC-51 with a cold weather cab, and what I really wanted to see a Ford GAA engine. |

The Ford GAA all aluminum engine is impressive, 1100 cubic inches, 450 hp, used to power M4A3 Sherman tanks.

Jim, thanks for the offer. I was there on a Saturday so hopefully you weren't working that day. The last IPMS OC meet I made it to a few months ago guess you'd just dropped in for a minute then had to leave. My buddy over there, Don Drummer, is a regular attendee so I usually show up with him if I'm over there on meeting weekend.
Thanks everyone for the comments. And once again If I've mis-identified something let me know so I can correct it. Don't know my mil vehicles (especially armor) like I do the civilian stuff. That GAA is something else. Guess its were Ford first developed a lot of the technology that got into the racing program in the 60's. Like the sodium filled exhaust valves on the 427 FE motor and in a lot of ways the Ford Indy Motor was just a smaller (much so) version of it. |

I've been going through your images, Wayne.
Your collection of pictures is a treasure trove of information about these old vehicles, many of them of particular interest to me (like the Marmon-Herrington, the DUKW, and the LCVP), or related to my personal hsitory (like the M-37 and the M-151). Lots of really interesting stuff! Many thanks for sharing the images. Don |

The first photo looks more like a M2 light tank with a double MG turret...

I have to say that they keep all these treasures like a junk yard. Things appear just piled up outside like crap.
If they displayed a few items in better conditions, maybe some cover/ owning and the rest in a storage building, it would attract more visitors and will keep better. I just hate seeing rare stuff deteriorate and poorly displayed. Hey it is my opinion. Isaac
