I wish all attendees an enjoyable time. Unfortunately I will not be able to attend this year (no vacation time left). Maybe next year...

I was forced to go to farmville VA (yeah it's a real place- I can't make this kinda stuff up) to visit in(out) laws for a week after being in PA for my HS reunion. So it's my wife's fault.

Brief update: As of today, we have 18 people signed up for the convention, and 21 display tables spoken for. It's a great start, but there's still plenty of room for more. If you're planning to come, send me your info (see the signup form in the library) as soon as you can -- it's no problem to pay when you arrive. See y'all in less than 2 months!

Matt Bergstrom has created an nice ad poster for the IPMC, in color and black-and-white versions. I've uploaded them to the "Self Help Library" section, and they should be available shortly. Feel free to distribute, post on bulletin boards (physical or electronic), etc. Thanks Matt!

International paper modelers' convention 2014 - awards

The primary purpose of the International Paper Modelers' Convention is the enjoyment and promotion of the art and craft of paper model design and building; the sharing of wisdom, tips, and techniques; the trading of stories about the craft and its artisans; and the sharing of camaraderie and good fellowship. Awards are bestowed in that spirit.

PEOPLE'S CHOICE:
The People’s Choice Award will be presented to the model voted "best" by all of the visitors and participants. A small card with a number printed on it will be placed by each model. Every person who walks through the door will be given a ballot to register an opinion as to the model they think is best by whatever criteria they choose. The model with the most votes wins.

SECULAR (NON-RELIGIOUS) ARCHITECTURAL MODEL COMPETITION:
Although all architectural models (including abbeys, basilicas, cathedrals, chancels, chantries, chapels, churches, minsters, mosques, oratories, shrines, synagogues, tabernacles, temples, and the like) are welcome for display, the particular theme of the 2014 Convention is non-religious buildings. A panel of judges will assess all such models and select a winner on the basis of artisanship, detailing, distinctiveness of subject matter, and overall appearance.

BEST TABLE DISPLAY:
Prizes will be awarded on the basis of eye appeal, enhancement of the appearance of the models displayed, and overall impression.

MOST UNUSUAL MODEL:
Eye appeal and artisanship count, of course, but this one is entirely subjective, and one award, with one prize, to be determined by the impartial and inscrutable Awards Committee.

AWARDS COMMITTEE SPECIAL AWARDS (ACSAs):
The Awards Committee will make a number of awards for categories to be announced at the time of the awards ceremony. These awards are intended to recognize contributions to the paper modeling craft, leavened by good humor and fellowship.

Don Boose, Anne McCombs, Rick Steffers, and Alan Wheeler (Emeritus)

Once again, Matt Bergstrom has designed a special paper model for this year's convention -- it will be up on the convention site www.ipmc-info.org shortly. I'm sworn not to drop any hints about it, but I can report that a) it is faithful to this year's theme and b) I guarantee that it will crack you up when you see it, especially if you've attended prior conventions.

Note that the models from the last 4 conventions, including last year's paper-model-building robot, are still available on the site as well.
