Loved the At-6 and Harvard photos, but really want to know what that big red beauty was. I've never seen anything like it. Now I wish I had one.

As I speculated in Post #9, the "big red beauty" is a Fairchild 100 Pilgrim.

Specifically, it is a 1931 Fairchild American Pilgrim 100B NC799Y: Alaska Aviation Museum finishes 1931 Fairchild Pilgrim - Anchorage Aviation Community | Examiner.com

American Pilgrim (Fairchild) Y1C-24 [29-411] (Gene Palmer coll)

100-B 1931 (ATC 470) = Modified 100 with larger fin. POP: 10; of which 6 to American Airways, 4 to AAC as American/Fairchild Y1C-24, aka Pilgrim 100-B. [http://www.aerofiles.com/_fair.html]

Now I wish I had taken more photos!

Knew about the Air Fair, the day before on Friday the company I work for donated some Helium cylinders for the event for balloons for the kids.

Planned on going over in the morning, but a couple of things happened, and didn't make it. Then the phone rings and my real-estate agent said my offer on a home had been accepted and hurry over to her office (bring big check for earnest money).

Going out to start my bike, heard a big radial engine above my apartment and then it dawned on me, forgot about the Air Fair. So, called the agent back and said I was going to be 15-minutes late, ended up being 45-miutes late....One of the T6 was flying the pattern!

First camera batteries died before getting a picture-the second lasted longer but they finally went after taking 74 photos. Forgot to charge everything the night before...

Oh well, wonder what they bring next year?!

I've already started a budget for next years Pattern rides (notice I said ride with an "s").

The pictures you did take were terrific, Mike.

Incidentally, I have been unsuccessful in finding three views of the Fairchild 100B on line. I found a few tiny little three-views in old aviation books, but nne adequate for model building, although I'm sure that this aircraft has been modeled in stick and tissue. The 3-views must be out there somewhere.

That's the L-13 sure enough. Still on the hunt for the Fairchild 100B Pilgrim three views.

This plane appears to have a "flat" engine. The one in the pics from Alaska has a radial. Hmmmmm.

Yes, your observation is correct. You can read the link that Don provided to find out about the radial. "L13 Pilot report"
