Vintage Motorcycle Museum, Solvang, CA

Another museum set wrapped up. Lots of neat bikes here. So crowded I couldn't even get to some to shoot photos and some were you try to hold camera in one hand and shoot. Have to get back there again some day since they have other rotate different bikes in and out; plus maybe some of the ones I wanted to shoot will be more in the open.

Here's a few samples: 1914 Yale, 1918 Thor, 1922 Megola, 1920 Briggs & Stratton Motor Wheel, 1912 Flying Merkel. The Megola is really weird, fwd with a 5 cyl radial (rotary) engine, have seen the engine labeled both ways so not sure which it is. The B&S Motor Wheel was sold as a power source including a cool little cycle car version that sort of looks like a snow sled mounted on wheels.

Oh lord! That place is my idea of heaven. The YALE, a real man's motor bicycle. Love the crocker, a real motorcycle. The Zundapp i want in my sitting room as an art piece.
And the B&S motor wheel, a marvelous idea, sadly fallen by the wayside, but should be 'reinvented'
Thank you Whulsey, for the cracking photos.

Cheers... Ray

All these pictures are fascinating bits of obscure history and technology, Whulsey, yet your first picture's obviously the most interesting to me. But as Yale is my given name instead of my surname, it's merely a conincidence -- not some might-have-been family wealth. No silver spoon for me.
