Cincinnati IPMS contest 2014
Our Cincinnati IPMS club hosted our yearly contest event today Oct 11, 2014. I missed it for the last 3 years while I was in Japan. But now that I'm back, it is an event I always enjoy.
I was the official event photographer and I already unloaded close to 600 pictures to our web master ( so I hope he has time to post them ). I was there early and I brought 4 paper models and entered in the vacuform/ conversion category ( as best as I could find a suitable category ). I brought the Tupolev R-6, TA-183 Huckbein, Avia S-199 and the RF-84F Thunderflash. A bit later, two other paper modelers joined. ( Paul and Frank ( aka Boats ). Paul brought his 1/400 scale DK Konigsburg German destroyer and Frank brought 5 models. A Vimmy, Lancaster, Balila, B-26 and a Whirlwind. As it turned out, they created a paper category for the planes and put us together. That is a first and a very welcome step. I hope that from here on, there will be a paper category for planes, boats, Sci-Fi, vehicles, armor etc... ). It was a fun event and a great chance to catch up with some of my paper modelers friends. We missed Ron Caudillo as he may be traveling. Pictures soon. Isaac

Paul, I had to depart around 2:30 , so I don't know how you did, or say bye. You must have been "shopping for kits". Isaac

The table
So here is the table dedicated to all our paper planes ( Boats and I ).
I wish we had more participants, but this is what we had today. For me it was about spreading the fact that paper is an acceptable form of modeling within the IPMS folks. many were fascinated, surprised.... that the models were made of paper. Isaac

And winners
This was really not about wining since there were only Boats and I competing. The good news is that we both walked away with "metal".
First place Avia S-199 by Isaac Second place Ansaldo Balila by Boats Third place B-26 by Boats The reality, is that the judges were confronted for the first time with this medium ( only one of the judges has seen paper models ). Therfore, I don't know what they were looking for. However as I said to me it was just fun displaying the paper models. Isaac

Thank you for letting us "attend" the contest via your photos Isaac. It was a real pleasure to meet Frank (Boats). I tell you, one of y'all should have walked away with Best of Show. Y'all really represented the paper modeling community well. Thank you!
