Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum
Hood River, Or 7-29-2014 Here's another museum I'd been wanting to get to for a few years that I managed to see on my summer trip to Oregon. Just didn't allow myself enough time for it, so had to really rush things meaning a lot of the photos didn't come out as well as I would have wished. Plus I really didn't get to check out everything like I wanted. Good excuse to go back.
The usual samples of what's here: A 1930 American Austin Bantam coupe, this was when they still had a marketing arrangement with Austin of England; Command-Aire 1929 3C3-T, a really pretty plane; Commonwealth 1946 Skyranger; early 50's sprint car using a Ranger engine, this is one of the reasons I've been trying to find a kit with a good Ranger 6 in it plus some early dragsters also used them; Emigh Trojan A-2 1948, that was build in Douglas, AZ of all places. 2nd row: 1925 Autocar; Locomobile 1899 steamer with a Stanley 1908 Model K behind it, most places you're lucky to see a steam car, here a Locomobile, a White and 2 Stanley's; Moswey glider; Piper 1943 HE-1; and a Wright H2 "Hisso". Hope there's something here for you to enjoy even if I was a bit shaky on some of the photos: 2014-07-29 Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum - whulsey |

Love the paint job on the Austin and the Locomobile - wow. I've read about them but this is the first time I've ever seen one.

Cool, I didn't know the place existed. Have to talk the wife into a side trip the next time we go to visit her family in Kennewick.

Wonderful machines, all very well preserved and/or restored.
The first line of machines brought back memories. They were all in use when I was a kid. Don |

Thanks, guys.
Beard, assume you probably go up US97 to I84 just take the split to US197 that brings you out at The Dalles, which is a really nice drive. Would probably be about another 50-60 miles for the side trip; but like I said you need a day there. Actually would like to get back up there with another day just to explore the area more. Anybody know a kit source for that Ranger engine?? |

Yep, always take 97 from Weed north, I worked in Goldendale for a few months way back when. The wife also has family in Seattle and Portland, so the side trip is not a problem. Have you ever been to Stonehenge at Maywood? It is a WWI memorial for soldiers lost from Klickitat County.

Thanks Beard, another place to check out if I make it back up there. This was my 1st time in Eastern Oregon. Really different from Portland and the coast.
