August 2013 Valle, AZ
Thunder Over Coconino at the Valle Airport and Planes Of Fame Museum annex there. A great time to get out of Phoenix especially when it was cool and rainy up there.
First a little id help please. Not enough there for me to identify so you experts out there let me know. I think I have this one right: Consolidated Vultee PRY-2 Privateer. Now into my territory a Triumph TR3A, 1960 version. Car show was sort of down, guess scared off by the weather...but a British car shows up, probably felt at home. A Schmidt Commuter Helicopter prototype with seats that look like they were stole out of a buddy's dune buggy in 1970. A Bat ASM-N-2 antiship missle. 2013-08-24 Thunder Over Coconino Valle AZ - whulsey Enjoy!! |

I remember seeing that helicopter! The museum guy told us it was homebuilt.

Guess it was homebuilt in the sense that it was a prototype that the guy was trying to get a development deal with it.

That first photo of the frame looks kind of like a Beach T-34 Mentor, but it may be earlier than that.
I noticed in a later photo ( I think of the missile?) what appeared to be the tail of a BF-109 and an A-26 Invader int eh background |

Looks like a U.S. Coast Guard PB4Y-2G, after 1951 P4Y-2G. |

Last time I was there was back in 2005 (wow it's been 10 years already?) But they had a BF-109 at the time, plus a Grumman Duck and an Ohka, and one of Roosevelt's Columbine Constellations out front. They had quite a few planes, those are just the ones I remember.

Cwiokster, think you're right on the nomenclature. So that should be a B instead of an R. Sometimes trying to decipher my scrawled notes a year later is a guessing game, that's why I asked about that one.
Willygoat, several photos of the 109 if you go to the link. Aaron, it was MacArthur's Constellation. |
