Thanks for posting this Tim. York is one of my all time favourite places. I used to live near here many years ago and I still visit friends here on a regular basis. The railway museum is beyond superlatives as an amazing place.
Great pictures enhancing a great thread. Cheers. Bernie |

Lots to whet the appetite there, Tim :-)
Haven't they done with that blasted Flying Scotsman yet?!? The one they 'finished' rebuilding in 2011? ;-) Plumdragon |

Some great photos. Looks like you could wander around in there for hours just looking.

I would like to have a paper model of the Monk gate.
But at least I just got to travel through the arch next to it in my google earth space ship! It is so lovely that they have gotten around to doing street level travel on many of the interesting cities and even some of the villages in Europe. But I can't always see buildings from all sides :( |

The Flying Scotsman is ,I believe, having new frames at the front as the holes for fixing the cylinders were elongated due to botched up repairs over the years causing the cylinders to move back and fro. It was discovered when they stripped it down for overhaul . That is why it is still in pieces.
I am going to York at Easter to see the model railway exhibition at the racecourse followed by a visit to the museum. |
