Modelperry Promotes Paper Modeling
Yesterday, I drove down to Hagerstown, Maryland, to attend a meeting of the Tri-State International Plastic Modelers' Society (Welcome to Tri-State IPMS).
Our own Greg Perry (Modelperry) put on an excellent demonstration of paper model building techniques. The plastic modelers were impressed, and so was I. It's fun to see a skilled paper modeler going through his paces. Greg was one of the four of us (Kevin Stephens, Rick Steffers, and I were the others) who mounted a paper models display at last month's Army Heritage Day (16 May 2009 Army Heritage Day Paper Modelers' Display). He does a fine job of putting out the word about paper modeling -- so do Rick and Kevin. Several of Greg's paper models are displayed at the Tri-State website (click on Model Gallery) and he has won a number of contests, with his models going head-to-head with plastic models. Here are some photos from last night. Don Boose |

Very cool. You know, every time I see one of these discussions regarding spreading the hobby, it reminds me of a conversation I recently had with a couple friends. I was showing one some pictures of the paper models I've built. She asked why? My other friend, who has painted entire armies for miniature wargaming, said I was a masochist - having to find the most difficult and time-consuming method of model building to embrace. I just laughed.

Steve -- Yes. There was a good turn out. The photo is deceptive. I took it just as Greg was beginning his presentation. Unfortunately, my photos showing the larger crowd were blurred. There was great interest and a lot of questions asked. One of the neat things Greg did was to have a plastic and card truck chassis side by side for comparison. Don
