Paper Model Convention in the Spring? Northern?

Chris Gutzmer (owner ecardmodels.com) and I (Dave/Dave's Card Creations)
have been discussing the possibility of putting togther a Springtime(?) Paper Modeler's Meet/Convention
to compliment the Fall IPMC held in Virginia.

Not this year obviously, but maybe...2017?

Chris has never attended the Virginia IPMC...I have, twice.
We would both like to see something a little closer to our respective homes
and more convenient to those who might live further north, like us.
Of course, anyone who attends the VA IPMC would be invited also!
This would be just another Paper Modelers Convention and Scale Model Meet.

We are currently in the very early planning(idea) stage of this...
and looking for ideas, input, criticisms and suggestions of any kind.

For me, the Virginia IPMC is even more appealing due to the fact that nearby is the wonderful Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.
Both times I have attended the IPMC, I have visited the Museum on Sunday.

A similar tie-in or nearby attraction might help make our Spring Meet more appealing.
Especially if we could hold our event in or close to such an attraction.
And thats why we have already considered Dayton Ohio as a location option.

Wright patterson AFB and the National USAF Museum in Dayton
might be the premier Air Museum ...and its completely free to visit.
Dayton has plenty of affordable Hotels, Motels too.

Are there any other locations you might recommend?
Or attractions/sites that might tie in to a Modellers event
or just be an atrractive addition to a Modellers weekend?

Keep in mind, we are currently focusing on northern Ohio,
or southern Michigan,
or somewhere in the surrounding area.

Chris lives in Wisconsin, just west of Lake Michigan
and I live in southern Ontario, just east of Detroit/Windsor
So that puts Dayton at a central location between us.
Maybe a little south, but equi-distance.

I think a nearby major airport should also be a consideration of the location,
to accomodate anyone flying in for the event.

So, as I said, this is very early planning right now, but we felt it necessary to get some feedback and ideas.
Would you be interested in attending?
Where are you located and how would you get there?
Where would you like to see a Northeast(US/Canada) Meet?

Dayton is doable for me. I have time and resources to either fly or drive.

This would be ideal, I get two conventions and museums in a year!

I'd definitely vote for Dayton. One thing that the museum in Dayton has that even the Smithsonian doesn't, are the X-planes. Virginia may have the X-1 and X-15, but the rest of the X's are displayed in Dayton.

I must add, that Dayton would be our most southern consideration.
Even though it has extra incentives, it is still a fair distance for both Chris and I.

Michigan might also be a consideration?

There is an amazing Museum near Detroit...the Henry Ford Museum.
No, its not a car Museum.
It more like a history Museum of everything including Cars and Aircraft.
Its in Dearborn.
Unfortunately not free.
But its part of a larger tourist complex.
I guess it would be accessible from Detroit, or is Dearborn a major airport?

So I guess Tucson is out then?

Before I got that far in your post, I was thinking Dayton would be a good choice
