Arizona Racing Museum, 9-22-2016. For open wheel fans.
The museum is in Phoenix just off the Tempe border from the I-10. Only a couple of miles from Sky Harbor, if you get stuck on a layover.

Yea, I can remember 'running wrenches' for my Grandfather and his buddies when they built sprints in the back yard many, many years ago. Spent a lot of time at Salem and Winchester Speedways. Can't hardly build anything competitive anymore (in any kind of racing) without a very fat wallet. Your pics bring back good memories! George

Nice looking cars in those photos on your smugsmug site.
I keep thinking about those drivers tearing along the course with nothing much more than a brain bucket for protection.

Thanks Doug, was a high risk career with very little financial return in those days.
George, thank you. Salem and Winchester definitely top tier for sprints. Cubic money anymore and not as much fun. Manzanita gone here in Phoenix and no more Copper Classic at PIR since Speedway Corp and the France's took it over. |

Hate that, but I should have figured. I spent the Novembers of '76 and '77 in Scottsdale with a friend of Pop's (Moms dad) going to the races when there was snow on the ground here. Great memories. George
