Smile Ajax model show-Toronto Canada area

I'm planning to attend the Toronto area model contest and show in Ajax

AJAX 36 Scale Model Contest 2016 - Home

I'll bring the 4 models I have with me. The rest are in storage.

Smile Went there

It was a great venue for a contest. Bright and wide and all the tables were elevated so the models are viewable without bending too much. Also, there were over 600 models on display which was great. Lots of vendors as well. But, I stopped purchasing plastic years ago, so I was able to just look at stuff. I did purchase a nice thick book on the Suchoi-27 by Yefim Gordon.

I came with my 4 paper models, but the paper category was not available this year. I talked to the club president and he was very happy to reinstate it for me. They had a nice location for me to set up my planes and while I was setting up, quite a few modelers came over to admire. One guy was talking to me for 5 minute discussing the details of the Suchoi-7. Finally, I told him it was made of paper and he was stunned. So I said, lift it and check it out. He was amazed we could have this much detail. I told him that as good as I am a builder, there are others that are superb at this craft and really show amazing detail.

Anyhow since I was the only paper modeler at the show, I got 1,2 and 3rd place medals. So I was able to brag to my wife that I'm bringing home the medals.

I wish we had a bigger paper presence though.

Way to go Isaac. Thank you for the photos, and for being a "paper presence" at the show.

Nice work!

Isaac, I was going to mention something at your last post before the Show.
But you posted fairly late, so I didn't bother.

The Ajax guys showed up at Air Cad-Con, and made a point of talking to me.
They were asking for my commitment to compete at the Ajax show, and
in return would reinstate the paper Model categories.

Doesn't matter though...
I would have been very surprised if they had not accomodated you.

The two fellows I met were very supportive of paper model involvement
and willing to make things happen.

Did you take any other photos of the event?
(I've seen enough of your models thanks! LOL)

I'm sure there will be plenty of pics at the Ajax show website.

Make sure you get your paper models ready for next year.
I expect to see you there.
Next year there will be a much bigger paper prescence!

So, I already knew about the lack of a paper category.
(Maybe thats why you got a generic "plastic model event" medallion?)

And its good to see you won something.

Dave

I already had a heads up about not having a paper category this year, but brought my models anyway. I even said, I'm willing to display only. They are very friendly.

Anyhow, It was a great event.

Pictures of other models are coming up.
