And now for the big one, one of the finest models ever seen. It is only paper, therefore, one does not need to be a rocket scientist to build a Saturn V. A few Tools. Glue. Willpower.

Incredible

The bike was made in Heerenveen, Province of Friesland, the bilangual province (by law). A Batavus Apache, 3(front), 7 gears, from the mid-Nineties, bought secondhand for FL 600,00 (270 Euro) more than 25 years ago. Maintenance cost approx. average monthly 7 Euro.

Maintenance at ¨Rijwielhandel Van Hoeijen¨, Amersfoort, a shop founded in the early Fifties by a former mechanic at the ¨Tour de France¨, Mr Henk van Hoeijen. It is a family business, now the third generation at large. Also providing bikes for rent (tourism), building specials.

Customized: steer, bags, Tyres: Schwalbe from Germany.

Bags, standard with some load to provide torque, providing kinetic energy for lots of time to have a smooth gear change and not loosing speed.
Picking up speed very fast is possible in this way. Regular sequence:
low -3rd gear, low- 4th gear, middle-4th gear, high- 4th gear, high- 5th gear and-so-on.

Right bag: first aid kit, 2 litres of water (standing up, front: right corners are shorter), bag with stuff. The old jacket is there providing comfort for my bottoms when having a rest on surfaces such as concrete, steel, et cetera. Also nice canvas when water drops from the skies are wetting everything. In woodland it appears to be an advantage to look a bit like forest. Yellow and blue is providing safety in matters of visibility for other bikers, especially those with a handicap in eyesight (colour blindness, tunnelvision). Also my patrol colours in days gone by as a boyscout.

Left bag: standard heavy duty chain, laying on the bottom. Steering coming out of a corner becomes in this way, when power is being put on the pedals, an additional power providing speed.
