Another trip to Pima
I got to go down to Pima Air & Space Museum again yesterday.
Starr Bumblebee Bede BD-5J in 007 markings OH-6 Cayuse Tomcat What a lot of people don't know is there are actually 2 PBM Mariners in this shot. The whole one, then just behind the red and white checkerboard display is the wrecked tail of a second one. F-107 Columbia XJL-1. It only bears a superficial resemblance to the Grumman Duck. But close enough that when I do the Duck, this one will be done as well (separate model though) Look what I found! (This is a hand carved wooden model, not mine) Apparently the Americans wanted one too. (Look for a model soon as I can find some info on it) Obligatory A-10 shot A view you never wanna see Lockheed YO-3 Quiet Star B-18 Bolo Neutered Cobra (They took it's guns away) Stieglitz! Military Training Glider Another Glider Hurricane Italian Storch |

Now for the reason I went down (one of them anyway).
The new hanger! No, this has not been photoshopped, it really is that skinny. You need to exit the plane to change your mind Bristol Blenheim/Bolingbroke P-39 PB4Y Privateer (lots and lots and lots and lots of reference pictures taken) Air Dropped Lifeboat B-25 PBY Catalina! How close do they let you get to the planes? Grumman Avenger Nakajima Oscar, which I was told is the Army version of the Zero Radio controlled bomb, carried by the Privateer Dunno what it is, but it's yellow! Bomb truck A-24 Wildcat P-63 P-51 Might be a Corsair The plane formerly known as Yellow Peril |

They have a lot of planes at Pima
F-86 Not an F-86 (Mig 15) Curtiss Commando B-29 Their latest acquisition C-27 Spartan (I think) Apparently somebody is building a Pod Racer Budd Conestoga Northrop Raider Jefferson Starship Tigercat It might be related to that green fuselage in the new hanger Don't wanna be around when this one sneezes Grumman Albatross B-23 B-36 (The only way to get the full plane in one shot Sculpture of 3 YF-23's at the entrance/exit |

Great.
Love the captions to each photo.
So many planes , so little time. Pima is on my bucket list even though I've been to hundreds of air museums. Isaac

Lotsa neat airplanes, Murph. I am glad to know that there is at least most of an A-24 in existence. They flew with the famous 3rd Bomb Group during the battle for Buna in 1942.
Two Columbia XJL-1s were built and one of them was at Harbor Field, Baltimore, Maryland, in the mid-50s when I saw and photographed it while hanging around the Maryland Air National Guard facility (P-51H and Ks and AT-6s). Don |

Living in the middle of the country since the '70's, I haven't been to Pima since '81. It sure has changed! Where's the PB4Y-2?
