Congratulations Isaac. I'm glad you and Darius had a great time. Very happy to hear you place 2 models in the top 3.

They were very open to me entering the paper models. In any case they let me display the planes and that was good enough for me. Getting the medals is just a further bonus, but really I enjoy just watching others look at the models only to be told it is not plastic. One guy even said to me "is it vacuform ?" and I said, No, it is paper. Isaac

Congratulations on the awards and opening some doors.
Not having been there, I don't have a real basis for this statement, but it seems to me that there could be several things working here. One -- How do you deal with paper models? Two -- They like the detail fiddly bits Three -- They seem to like color Granted, I'm just basing this off the photos you shared, not the 400+ models as a whole. The MIG is paper, not quite as many fiddly details, and not as colorful. Even though it is well done. We used to enter cars in shows, and once you do a show, you get a better feel for what will place higher next time ... assuming they have the same judges Again, congratulations

Plastic modellers are well impressed by realistic paint jobs.
I can see how the Mystere's printed finish would impress. Lots of detail, bright colour, and the camo is an eye catcher. The overall finish helps hide seams and paper joints. Not to mention the fact that the build is clean ...by a skilled builder. The MIG is rougher looking. You can see the paper joints and surface imperfections. ...there isn't as much colour and effect to hide things. Not as many fiddly bits, as vermin says. I'm really glad to see you changed your mind and announced yourself before entering your models. Not sure why they felt the need to limit your models to display only? A bit unfair? But in the end, you scored some awards. Either they forgot about the display-only demand? or just changed their minds? Who cares...you made the right impact at a plastic event. Next year they will have to reconsider their position on paper entries. Or...they'll just ban paper all together. LOL Congrats. next time...I'd love to see you actually scratch build something? or build a North American kit? Lets stop promoting Euro kits so much, and start promoting more home grown stuff. I'm tired of the attitude that Euro kits are somehow better.

It was around noon when I finally arrived at Torcan. I run into a buddy of mine and after a short chat we went to exhibition room. There walking along tables we admired and talked displayed models when we found ourselves standing in front of 3 large scale airplanes. The one in camouflage in particular caught my attention. Something odd about it.
After a moment I mumbled Is this a paper plane...? No it’s plastic... my buddy answered with the air of authority oh okay, it looks different though I said. Nice paint job probably what it is he said It could have been painting, I agreed, but there was something else, I bend over to take a “closer” look with my nose almost touching it. No, it’s paper !!! I exclaimed after few seconds of extreme close-up. I glimpsed back at my buddy, for a blink he seemed frozen his eyes winding, sudden doubt in surrounding reality. He is not paper modeler never made anything out of paper and obviously knows nothing about paper modeling. It took a second or two to regain his senses. Look at the entry form, it says paper... said hesitantly That was the moment I realized Isaac is at the show.. and his Mystere was in the center of our confusion...
