Cool Nice event at the Hamilton airport contest

Went to the event. It was a great venue surrounded by real planes. Other than no paper, there was a good turnout in plastic. Also, lots of vendors including non aviation related.

The place is very big and open and that helped make it feel free floating.

And yes, they had plenty of room to accommodate a table for displaying our paper models.

I met Darius at the event, It was great to talk. Also, we are thinking of another paper get together in a few months.

Here are a few pics from the event including Star Wars characters

The fellows from Torcan are the guys that I spoke to...the guys who invited me to take part in the big Ajax show.
These are the Peel Scale Modellers.

But the Peel Scale Modellers are admittedly a plastic dedicated group and they make it known.
In the Torcan contest rules it actually states:
Materials: This is a plastic scale model contest. While models may be constructed from any material, models that are not primarily made from plastic, such as paper or wood models can only be entered at the discretion of the Chief Judge. Please contact the Chief Judge before the show to discuss eligibility. Pre-assembled models, such as die cast or prepainted subjects, are not eligible unless extensively reworked. Documentation of rework is required, and these models will be placed into a separate category from the plastic models.

One of the things they don't like is the preprinted finish.
I guess they have been priming, painting and weathering thier models for so long,
they expect it as part of a normal build.
I'd say a scratch built "paper" model...Euro style...with putty, primer and paint, would be more acceptable to them.

I read the rules and plan to ignore them

Scratch built model plastic canopy , added material is wood, metal rods, paper

If they kick me out, then no problem , it's only a contest .

yeah, but in the process, you might strengthen their dislike of paper models and "paper modellers".

just saying...the rules and contest guidelines are very clearly explained.
if you act ignorant, you may end up being treated ignorantly.

If you have a scale model that is "mixed media",
then why not submit it that way for consideration?
let them decide to enter you and then there are no bad feelings on either side.

why would you want to risk being "kicked out"?
I'm usually the one that is cocky and pushy, and even I wouldn't enter a model that way.
just my opinion Isaac.

How the time flies. Thanks for posting this Isaac. It feels like we just attended Hamilton and if not for your reminder I would probably missed Torcan. I’ve kind of lost the countdown....

Corrections are made now and I’m ready to go. Unfortunately I’ve got no ready models for the contest. Still I’m looking forward to it. See you there.

Cool TORCAN 2017 contest

Darius and I attended the Toronto TORCAN contest today. Always great time spending with him and talking shop, history etc...

Relatively medium size contest. There were around 400+ models on display. All plastic except my 3 paper models.

I talked to the management and the head jundge and decided to display the models in the aircraft scratch built category. They said I can enter for display only. However when the show was over, I won 2nd place for the Super Mystere and 3rd place for the FJ-1 Fury. My Mig-9 did not place. First place went to a plastic mostly model of a French steam powered 19 century design Clement Ader's Eole ( that never flew ). The workmanship was fantastic though.

Here is my Super Mystere, 2nd place

FJ-1 Fury, 3rd place

Mig-9, no place

and the plastic 1st place winner.Clement Ader's Eole

More pics later.
