Ford builds the B-24 at Willow Run video

An early propaganda film (I think) of the Willow Run B-24 plant. This has been around, but may be new to some.

Willow Run, Ypsilanti MI, is the home of the Yankee Airforce (now renamed with a long, cover all things handle) but nevertheless, has a pretty good collection of airplanes. Mostly from the jet age, but WWII iron as well. All but a small part of this giant plant is now gone, however, the corner was saved, to become the Yankee museum, is about 100,000 sq feet.

The museum has a flying B-17, a B-25, a C-47 (DC-3) which give rides. Sadly, by the time the museum was founded, no B-24 could be found to include. Not for the lack of trying. A contingent of members even went to India to chase down some planes there. Untrue rumor.

Administrator: My in-aptitude at forum protocol tells me this thread is not where it is supposed to be - museum, aviation, or whatever. Please fix. Jim

Thanks for posting, Being a big Ford fan plus a life member of the Kaiser Frazer Owners Club, the Willow Run plant is a special place for me.

Jim -

Excellent footage. Great images of a beautiful airplane.

By coincidence, I just finished reading Richard Overy, Why the Allies Won (New York: W.W. Norton, paperback reprint, 1997). Overy cites the Willow Run plant and all that it represented in terms of technology, ingenuity, productivity, and mobilization of human effort as one of the reasons, among others.

At 3:10, are those a couple of Vultee P-66s in the background?

Wayne - Do you actually own a Kaiser or a Frazer (or a Henry J)?

Don

As an addition to the WIllow Run story, AND Kaiser Frazer, some C-119's were built at the old Bomber Plant after WWII. Interesting reading:

Fairchild C-119 "Boxcar"

Wayne - The Ypsilanti Auto Museum has several Kaiser Frazer's on display, as well as a lot of other memorabilia. Come visit one day! I had a Kaiser CJ-5 Jeep for some time. One shows up at our Orphan Car Show every now and then.

Don,

No longer, but had a 52 Kaiser Manhattan for about 30 years. Was my daily driver for around 8 or 9 years.

Anyone in Arizona during July 9 through July 14 the KFOC National Convention will be in Prescott, AZ.
