Thumbs up Dayton Ohio 2018 paper get together

As a follow up to Dave's threads on trying to have a Paper Con last year, I will be collecting information on the venue we proposed last time as to the cost and availability.

previous threads here:
Paper Con 2017 - Dayton Ohio Spring Paper Modelers Meet
Paper Model Convention in the Spring? Northern?

I now reside in the Dayton area and can concentrate on this task

Time frame:
March, April or May of 2018.

Location:
Hope hotel and convention center right next to the gate at Wright Patterson AF base.
Hope Hotel & Richard C. Holbrooke Conference Center Hotel at Wright Patterson Air Force Base

Duration:
Friday evening, and whole day Saturday, Sunday

Dinner/ social/ food Saturday evening.

I'm personally not into awards, trophies ( or stickers ), but if there is interest, maybe a people's choice award. I'm open to suggestions.

We can have each modeler/vendor use a table or a few tables and charge accordingly.

The approach I will take is to find a suitable date where the hotel can give us a large room for a reasonable price and then let all of you know it. My reasoning is that If I open the forum for discussion, we will never agree on anything and as usual people do not commit ( Life gets in the way; me too ).

As an FYI, Paul H. is the current president of our Dayton IPMS club and is an avid paper builder. He will connect me with the proper folks at the hotel so we can work out details.

A successful meet should consist of at least 15 or more participant ( I hope more ). We will have it opened to the public and I will also talk to the folks at the Air Force Museum to place flyers at their lobby.

So if you have interest in the get together,
- go the the Air Force museum,
- visit the Wright Brothers museum,
- can afford the time and expense of traveling and lodging,

then I want you to attend.

So stay tuned and I will let you know.

I'll keep a close eye on this idea. I'm originally from the Dayton/Springfield area. The Air Force Museum use to be my second home in my teens.
MASSIVELY suggested idea for a group activity would be the tour of the restoration areas.
April (Mid) would be best for me.

As I mentioned before, if I did a big trip next year, it will be in the fall to the IPMC.
I will be combining that with a trip to Washington Museums with my Daughter.
Theres no way I could afford a second trip unless something (financially) miraculous happened.
Sorry.

My flight benefits should kick in around March, so I'll definitely try and make it. I was planning on flying to a different air museum a month next year anyway.

So far it looks like after April 15 is better. So maybe even as far as May is OK as well.

As I said, I will look for suitably reasonably priced weekend at the Hope hotel and see how we can make this work.

Question Cincinnati model expo- opportunity

I have contacted the Entertrainment Junction organizer regarding participation in their model show in March:

Calendar | Entertrainment Junction

March 3 – 4
2018 Scale Model Expo
Come and see these Operating Steam & Gas Engines! 1/6 Scale Figures & Dioramas! Live Steam Locomotives, Models of Boats, Planes, Military Items and more. FREE to the public on Sat, March 3rd, 10am-6pm and Sun, March 4th noon-4pm.

I have displayed there in the past and they were very generous with the tables.
Model show-Entertrainment jucntion

This is not to replace our Dayton get together plans, but rather a totally free event for us to display our paper models in a wide setting of other models of trains, planes, boats, cars, engines, tanks, figures etc...

This venue is located north of Cincinnati and is about 30 minutes south of Dayton.
https://www.google.com/maps/place/73...50916?hl=en-US

I will definitely attend and I am asking for at least two large tables.

So if you want to join and display your paper models, let me know this week so I can request the tables we need.

Let me know

I will look further into the Dayton venue most likely to take place mid April or later.
