U.S.S. Enterprise studio model visit

Okay, so thanks for all the birthday greetings earlier this month. I wasn't able t reply quickly became a little lass fun-napped me to DC for a get-a-way.

While there I dropped by the Smithsonian & took a gander at the recently restored Star Trek studio model. I thought about you folks and thought I'd take some detail pics that might help model builders and designers; close ups that might provide otherwise missed features that real accuracy freaks, like me , might appreciate.

Apologies for the photo detail but I wasn't aware of the trip in advance and had only a little cheap digital.

I'll post some general overall pics first and over the next few days add details and close ups as interest demands.

Hope these will be valuable...

A few interesting images...

the intercooler detail was considerable for a 1960s studio model...

Close ups of the aft nacelles show that there is ribbing before the

stripping along the top of the secondary hull

Seeing this in person, in the Restoration room at the Smithsonian,
just out of its crate, not in a glass case, and before it was restored
was a life changing experience for a lifelong Trek fan like myself.
I can still smell it!

Thanks to Anne McCombs for making that experience happen.
I just wish I had been allowed to take photos at the time.

I haven't seen it since, so it will be nice to go visit it again
and see the entire display.

Glad these might help. I thought some close ups of the model, from a modeler's eyes, might help in design and build efforts.

Here's a few more...

(I am sorting out a lot)

The lit interconnecting dorsal

Interior pylon detail

The upper saucer, supposedly unrestored and w original paint...

Navigational beacon [note a smaller, unlighted edge beacon]

lit up

-more to come...

Note on the last pics:

There's a textured aspect to the flush vents in pic #2.

The red bulbs at the edge of the bridge module in pic 3 and in 4 & 5.

Pic 3 also shows the illumination of the circle at the bow (& damaged paint near it).

More details...

First two pics show the port nav light on the saucer [red] and the 2nd illustrates the unlit secondary bacon.

Upper saucer sensor rectangle...

pic 4 of lit lower saucer & deflector dish [note the protrusion from the main sensor dome, the detail along the fore dish, & the pronounces ridge along the lower saucer sensor].

pic 5: the detail of the hangar doors, control tower, aft beacon, etc.
