Dayton Paper Con 2018 May 11 to 13th

I built a few simple models for our Dayton convention to see how long it takes to build each and how difficult.

Here are the ones I built so far.Dave's models mostly.









The verdict is that Dave's simple vehicles and cube are the easiest, simplest and best looking for the visitors to our convention. It would be a good start and we don't need to spend more than 30 minutes to build.


The Yellow submarine, The Rocketeer helmet and the Ercoupe take much longer. So I will bring the kits and folks can start but need to take it home to finish. This will be a good way for them to come back and spend more time building.

Other simple kits can also be added later on. So if you know of a free, public use kit, let me know.

Good to know the results of your experiment.

We have always had great success with Dave's simple models at the annual IPMS event in Fairfax, Virginia, and at the Paper Modelers at Army Heritage Days in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

Is the pretty Ercoupe Gary (Music Man's) repaint of the Fiddlers Green kit, or what?

Yes, I got the repainted version off the Fiddler's Green web site a couple of weeks ago ( for St Patrick day ).

Hotel check in on your own
5 pm - Welcome desk, convention room checkout
6 pm - get to know each other

Saturday May 12
Set up 8 am till 10 AM – Set up tables and displays
10 am - Doors open to public
Demos, make and take, reviews of models
Convention discussions
5 pm - Doors closed
6 pm – Group dinner at hotel

Sunday May 13
9 am - Breakfast / Brunch
10 or 11 am on – museums visits : suggestion : Air Force museum, Origami display at the Art Institute, Wright Bro museum, Packard automobile museum

had a great time at the Dayton IPMS contest.

Frank ( Boats ), Paul H and myself in attendance in addition to the other 350 plus models entered. We had a paper category with 21 paper models entered.

and talked with some folks that either will come or consider attending our convention to learn more.

While at the Wright Con contest yesterday, I met at the vendor table Craig from Pirate Tech Models and noted that some of his models have paper contents ( the models are a mix of 3D printed plastic, styrene and paper ) . He makes models of campers and simple buildings. We discussed having him participate in our paper convention May the 12th and he said he may join us. In addition he was very generous in donating a whole bunch of simple card models he designed and small rulers so we can use it for the Make and Take portion of our get together.

So hopefully he will join.
