Isaac, it's great to see that this is coming together. I'm still hoping to make it if I can work out the logistics. Your decision to exhibit on Saturday only is wise. The IPMC did both Saturday and Sunday for a while, and we found that we didn't get much traffic on Sunday.

Getting closer
I started handing out the flyers for our event at 3 model contests and expos as well as some local hobby shops.
Jim ( WVA ) will also rally the troops that are within driving distance and see if we can get some more folks to display/participate or visit. John Wagenseil came over with good ideas. I will check the pulse as we get closer. Here is our flyer: Schedule: Friday May 11 Hotel check in on your own 5 pm - Welcome desk, convention room checkout 6 pm - get to know each other Saturday May 12 Set up 8 am till 10 AM – Set up tables and displays 10 am - Doors open to public Demos, make and take, reviews of models Convention discussions 5 pm - Doors closed 6 pm – Group dinner at hotel Sunday May 13 9 am - Breakfast / Brunch 10 or 11 am on – museums visits : suggestion : Air Force museum, Origami display at the Art Institute, Wright Bro museum, Packard automobile museum Isaac

Sounds like a great event. Wish I could be there. I hope for next year, since I will no longer be teaching.
Hat off to you, Isaac, for making this happen. Don |

I have spoken to the USAF museum education coordinator regarding our upcoming Dayton paper convention in May. There is good interest and I was asked if I could do it at the museum proper if they agreed to it.
I guess you know the answer! I am sure there are a few wickets to go thru before this materializes ( if at all ). So this is another possible future venue. Lets hope. Isaac

I think air museums love having modelling conventions on their premises. We did one down at Pima a few years ago, and not only did they provide tables for no charge, but they also let anybody attending the convention in for free.

I need very simple airplane models in that case
Quote:
for some reason, others tried this route at this museum and it did not go. You would think that It makes sense! I will need super simple airplane kits ( I have Dave's simple Hummer and APCs which are perfect non aviation models ) that folks can build in 30 minutes or so. So I will be asking designers out there to see if any are out there that I can print and let folks build for free ( that is a requirement at the museum ). Entry is free anyhow. Yesterday I volunteered at the museum family day and the place had lots of visitors. We can piggy back onto something like that for next year or so. Isaac

I've been looking through my models trying to find one that can be built in 30 minutes or so, but I'm not having much luck. I did find an old "Ancient Chinese Sail Car" model that I uploaded back when I first started designing (2003 or so), but when I tried to build it, I realized how much I've learned in designing over the years. I need to do some tweaks to it before it's even buildable.

Even if it takes a few minutes longer, I'll work it in. But not much longer. Isaac

Reminder
Folks
Please see if your plans changed to join our Dayton Paper convention May 12th. I will have no shortage of local spectators as I advertise it. However, I need our forum members to commit to participate. Please PM me directly if you can join. I have started accumulating simple kits for guest visitors to try their hands in building simple models. I'll post my trial pics soon. Isaac
