Independence Seaport Museum.

Hi all,

Happy Independence Day.

Well I am spending the weekend with my girlfriend in Philadelphia, and one of the events we attended was the Super Scooper Ice Cream benefit, which just happen to next to the Independence Seaport Museum.

We made the decision after the ice cream to visit the museum.

Lots of models of various ships, took some pictures of some of the better displays.
I won't be able to get them off my cell until I get back to the office.

Philadelphia's History Museum of the Region's Maritime Heritage - Independence Seaport Museum

A couple of vessels are on display outside the Museum

The USS Olympia (C-6)
and
The USS Becuna (SS-319)

The Olympia looks a lot like the USS New York

It is a nice small museum, good for an off day on a vacation.

Rick

This is a great museum and the ships are definitely worth a visit.

Did you get to the USS New Jersey at Camden across the river?

Lil and I are planning a trip back, this time with our older grandson, next month and want to include the battleship in our itinerary.

Colonel,

No, the New Jersey wasn't planned, I might have to go solo on that one

Olympia would be worth a trip to Philly. I've only been there once. Subpoened as a witness against a trial against one of my suppliers. I naturally went to the wrong courthouse (the really cool looking one downtown - learned that it was originally powered by Direct Current) and then ran to the fed courthouse and sat in a small and hot room until I was called. That's about all I remember, but seeing this is there and USS New Jersey is in Camden. Hmm, I'm thinking that's pretty close to DC. Might have to make a week of it if I can get up there for the Oct. convention.

Thanks for the post, Rick!
