Thank you Don.

I have really enjoyed all this - where I am there is little possibility of either socializing or having or attending an event like this, so it is something that I have followed with interest (and a degree of bemusement!). Very interesting and something that has brought me a lot of enjoyment.

Final Entry - Reenactors and Vehicles

1. A French and Indian War era Black Watch Highlander with an ornate basket-hilt claymore (claidheamh-mòr) contemplates Jack Colin’s Roman soldier.

2. Vietnam era gun truck.

3. Vietnam era convoy escort M-151 of the 54th Transportation Battalion, 8th Transportation Group.

4. Field headquarters, 54th Transportation Battalion, Vietnam.

5. WWII, jeep of the 817th Tank Destroyer Battalion, 1st Armored Division, and M18 Hellcat Tank Destroyer of the 704th TD Battalion, 3rd Armored Division. The M18 is a permanent exhibit of the USAHEC.

6-7. M29 Weasel.

8. Line up of the M4A2 High Speed Tractor (HST), M3A1 Half Track, and M20 Armored Utility Car.

9. M4A2 HST.

10-11. M3A1 Half Track entering and running the obstacle course.

12-14. M20 Armored Utility Car.

15. M4A2 Sherman Medium Tank and M36 Tank Destroyer.

16-17. M36 Tank Destroyer.

18-20. M4A2(76)W HVSS Medium Tank (Sherman). The designation means it is the second major modification (Diesel engine), mounted a 76mm gun, had a water chamber surrounding the ammunition storage, and had a horizontal volute suspension system (HVSS). When the HVSS was installed experimentally, it was the eighth experimental modification (E8) and the term “Easy Eight” stuck for all models of the Sherman with the HVSS.

Our revels now are ended. I hope that you enjoyed reliving the Paper Modelers at Army Heritage Days 2018 with us.

Out here.

Looks like they tore up the grass pretty good

Reminds me of Lima, Ohio. We would do a picnic on this hill overlooking the tank plant's test track (or whatever you want to call it). Only less grass to tear up

Fantastic coverage and commentary Don. I've thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you. Can only hope that the IPMC is covered so well.

Lots and lots of model inspiration as well.

If I had been there I would have been probably lining up military kits by now!

Thanks for checking in Dave, Isaac, Elliott, and Kevin. Good to know someone has taken a look at the narrative and seen the images.

If all goes well, I will try to provide similar reportage for the IPMC.

Isaac - I think they just roller the grass and spread some seed to let it recover during the summer. The tank obstacle course is now a permanent feature with the gravel hill, water obstacle (where the M3A1 Half Track got bogged down this year on the first day- no probs the second day), and the turning track.

I haven't had the chance to talk with Jeff Mangelsdorf and the USAHEC staff, but I suspect that the vehicle display and obstacle course runs will become an annual event.

I'm glad to know that you read through the posts, Michael.

Kevin - These periodic face-to-face meetings are very enjoyable and rewarding. I'm glad to know that Isaac has organized a couple of paper model gatherings in Canada and Ohio. I always read the reports with great interest and like to be able to put faces with names. It surely would be great if you could visit one day (or if I could get out to South Africa to see all those steam locomotives and colorful birds, and to have the chance to shake your hand). You never know. Cardist (Bernie) made it over here from Scotland once, and is going to be with us in Sterling in October. I'll just keep hoping.
