London (Ontario) Scale Model Show Sept 22 2018

London Scale Model Show

Sep 22 London Ontario

I booked this event very early this year, but never finalized my attendance.
LOL I checked their website this past week and found I am on the list of Vendors!

A nice surprise...however I have to scramble now to sort out my Display and get repacked!
I'm already mostly packed for the IPMC!

I attended this event way back, about 6 years ago (2012) when it was an annual event.
Now it is every two years and one of the largest Model shows in Ontario.

It is held in a large divided Gymnasium, big enough to separate a large Competition and Display area from the Vendor's Marketplace.
I think there are at least 70 Tables in the vendor area.

Yes, its an IPMS sanctioned Model club related event...but these guys were so welcoming of paper the last time I attended.
The response was inspiring and the interest in what I offered was amazing.

I didn't enter paper models in competition but this club actually has a note about about the inclusion of Paper in their competition rules.
Materials other than plastic are encouraged, although its made clear that like items will be judged separately.
In other words, they don't want 100% paper kits competing against 100% plastic kits, etc.

As before, I have two Vendor tables in the marketplace...I'll be mainly displaying some models and promoting my store.
But I'll also have a few printed kits and some DVDs with digital kits.
I might even take a few plastic kits for sale!

So, if you've got nothing to do on that Saturday, drop by and check out a really good Model Show.
And watch here for further reports.
If I get a chance, I try to take a few photos.

My tables in 2012:

Huh. You're in London (Canada) and a Star Trek fan. Have you ever heard of the YouTube channel Trekyards? One of the guys there is in London(Canada).

I am not in London personally.
I live in Cambridge, which is due East from London.
I'm sort of halfway between London and Toronto on the major highway that runs across Ontario (Hwy 401)

Yes, I am a big Original series Fan.

And, no, I do not know Trekyards or those guys. Sorry.

Did you need me to ask them something if they happen to be at the IPMS show?
I don't know if they would have anything to do with it, but you never know.

Naah. I just thought you might be interested, and thought it was one of those co-ink-i-dink things that you're both in the same area.

Its Sunday, and I am recovering!
lol
The day after London Scale Model Expo 2018.

Was a long day for various reasons...but I also came home with some serious head congestion and terrible dryness in my throat and sinuses.
Not sure if it was a byproduct of the event, location, etc, or if I am coming down with something...feel a bit better today.

Anyway, the event was an enjoyable success.
Another good London Scale Model show.

Big crowd for the first couple of hours (through the Vendors Market) and a nice turnout for the Model Competition.
Not nearly as many models as in past years, but a very nice assortment of category entries!
I was really impressed with the varied topics.
And of the fewer number of models, the quality seemed that much higher.

I forgot to photograph my vendor table, where I had a number of Paper Models on display including 7 aircraft, 1 PT Boat, and a few small scale vehicles (Airfield and Automotive Diorama Accessories)
I managed to sell quite a few Printed Kits, a couple of Discs (Digital Models) and handed out many business cards.
Oh, I also took some Plastic kits for sale, and sold most of those.
So, all my expenses were covered for the day and I still went home with a very small profit.

I took a handful of photos over in the competition area...didn't have my camera with me, just my smartphone.
I planned to take a few more but I got lazy, sorry...but there were some amazing builds.
Look see here: https://imgur.com/a/mPQJFDU

I didn't expect to win anything with my Saladin entry...and I didn't...but it was fun to put it out there.
However I could have saved $5 and placed it on my Vendor Display table (I was disappointed that I did not have a large scale Vehicle on the table).
Oh well, next time.

So, all in all, a good show, too bad it only comes around every other year.

At some point, the London club will update their website with photos and event results, so watch there for more info:

Good question. I don't know.

I've done a few paper RCAF Mustangs, but I've only paid attention to the few reference photos I have used.
I've never done much research into RCAF Mustangs.

Funny, because I had a fellow stop at my table yesterday who knew everything about Canadian Mustangs
having searched and documented the locations of every one.
He was also involved in restorations.
Too bad we can't ask him.

Was just at the London Scale Model Show website, looking to see if the list of winners and awards has been posted yet.
It has not.

But...they have put up a Photo Gallery of most of the entries

...including my Saladin (in the Armour section)

and surprise, surprise, it looks like someone snapped a photo of part of my Vendor's table display!
