That’s one of my favorite museums. I got to talk with their plas**c model curator and he let me tour the unbuilt models building in the back lot. House size building completely full with shelf upon shelf of model kits. Every modelers dream. Lots of old classics I had back in the ‘60s. Just wished they would keep their models out on display in a little better condition. I hope to make one of their air shows some day.

Beautiful!
I have always liked this airplane. The first plastic model I ever built was an Ercoupe case in pale green. Some time around 1949-53, I think. I have had the Comet stick and tissue version on my shelf for decades, but as yet it remains unbuilt. Thanks for these excellent and welcome images, Bob. Don |

Planes of Fame
Ed Maloney's model room is now open to the public.
On display is a 1944 cardboard model. Don, I am testing a new camera : Canon Power Shot SX60 HS and have a lot to learn. BP |

The Ercoupe images look perfect to me. The last wood laminate B-26 shot looks very slightly hazy at the edges, but I think it is a depth of field problem - hard to beat.
I do not remember wood laminate models, but I remember toy cars made of a wood paste and stick and tissue models with bamboo and cardboard replacing balsa (I was too young to build a stick and tissue model in those days, but watched my cousin build them). Don |

The very first balsa tissue model I made was the Comet one you have! Bought it with , my first home business profits, lawn mower money, when I got it home nobody including grandparents had ever put one together. Figured Grandpa would be able to help, he helped with so many other projects. Ended up not flying, was too heavy due to the elmers glue used to put the balsa back together after "breaking" by using a straight edge safety razor blade to cut everything out...Elmers didn't work so good for applying the tissue either. Never bought another plastic model after that. The next stick version bought, I asked the hobby shop for specifics, found out the proper glue, and dope to use. Interesting airplane, designed not to be able to stall with "mixed" controls. I've always liked it as well. Main reason why I bought it as a stick/tissue = there was one parked at the local airfield in my home town. Agree with you on the photos! They are fantastic, bringing back many old memories, seeing again the one many years ago doing touch and go's, on the airfield where I learned to fly. Mike |
