Information about a 2011 exhibit of the history of paper pop up books.

Paper Engineering: Fold, Pull, Pop & Turn | National Museum of American History
On of the earliest pop up books was the 1570 English translation of Euclid's Geometry. The pop ups provided 3D illustrations of principles of geometry.

One of the books featured in the exhibition, A Suit of Armor for Youth 1824, can be bought or downloaded, though, unfortunately the download does not have the color plate of the actual book.
